Ok- as soon as I post this I will probably find out I'm wrong on 18 different points but here goes..
After visiting 3 dealers (and stumbling across 2 salespersons in the process, hey 2 out of 3 wow! Both were both intelligent, helpful and knew their products (what are the odds of that)...AND GREAT HELP FROM RACHAEL (Ford Service) so here goes:
50th LE's and 50 Appearance Pack (aka 50 Years Edition*-I'll explain at the end of the post) have: Sill plates out of black plastic with the oblong center filled in with an aluminum plate in which the Ford symbol and MUSTANG is deeply stamped (appears to have some tie to 65+ sill plates). Look inside your car and you will seethe black plastic part and the alum panel part)
Per Rachael- these can be replaced with 50 Years Limited Edition illuminated sill plates as long as a wiring harness change is made (where in the electrical line, complication in doing so (pulling up carpet, just under the dash-all unknown as this time)? Harness to come with the plates. We will all find out more in time. especially once we talk someone into spending $300 to be the group guinea pig.
Premium level GTs and EB have the same basic black sill plate but the oblong center is a sheet of alum with "cuts" that spell out MUSTANG with a light source under the alum plate. Aka illuminated sill plates. (I think it also has the Ford symbol)
6 cyl, base EBs (did NOT see a base GT but I was told it has the exact same plate) just have a black plastic sill plate that says MUSTANG (and Ford symbol I believe)...all just black plastic.
* at one dealership the sales guy understood what I wanted to see (the differences) and he told me the 50 Year Edition has the same sill plates as the 50 Year LE. I said it was an appearance item not a model.
"Not per Ford" he told me. He clearly knew what the LE was--they got 1 and the store owner has it at home and ain't selling). He walks me over to a Black EB with the 50th Appearance Package (chrome highlights look great)..and opens the passenger door for me. Inside on the glove box...Instead of Limited Edition # (ours) or "Since 1964" (which I assumed all other 2015 Mustangs say)...Ford labeled it on the plate: 50 Years Edition.
Sure didn't know that one. www.google.com/search?q=50+years+ed...our-hundred-thirty-five-horsepower%2F;600;337
