Just called four area dealerships regarding a sound from back of my EB.
I am on vacation next week starting monday. I asked them if I can drop the car off today and they can look at it WHENEVER they can get to next week.

The answer? "nope, you can't leave the car with us" If you are off next week, why don't you bring it in and wait here while we work on it? Yes, I have nothing better to do with my life and I REALLY enjoy sitting on old smelly couches for hours while they work on it.

I told them that the sound only happens when the car has been sitting, so if I drove it to dealer, the sound would be gone. their answer, "I don't know what I can tell you except that we don't store cars for people".

I then asked, "do you have any other solutions because I have warranty on my car, but no one seems to want to help me out unless I take a day off, bring it in, and then sit at their dealership" THe answer, "nope, you should really just bring it in the day of the appointment so our tech can go testdrive it with you". I thought I'd tell him about the car needing to sit overnight in the cold, but then hung up.

Call another dealer, same thing.

The final dealer said, "it's probably because of bad weather and snow, we don't want to keep cars on our lot because of snow removal. You should call back when the weather is nice" WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? When? Spring?!?!?!?!?

I have NEVER had such difficulty trying to get my car serviced. If this keeps up, I am afraid that this will be the first and the last Ford I will own

From my experience once you do get the car in Ford is going to tell you "that is normal" or "we know about the issue but there is no fix".

Sorry. Not all dealerships act or do business this way. You need to find another dealership.

I agree with Todd, it sounds like it might be worth it even if you have to drive out of the way to find a better dealership. As much as I know how much that sucks to hear.

I mean I kind of get their position. If they take an hour to look at the car and then have to hold it on the lot for days, whose responsibility is it if the car gets dinged damaged etc? Obviously theirs and they don't want to take on the liability.

I know it's inconvenient for you but you have to bring the car in and wait for it and pick it up when done. The dealership doesnt HAVE to hold your car and assume the liability on to store it.

I don't understand the big deal. Take it in and let them look at it and drive it home. It wont take more than 30-60min to at least determine if there is a problem. You want the dealership's help but don't want the "inconvenience" (of a old couch?) of being at the dealership for maybe an hour.

You bought a $30k Ford, not a $500k Ferrari or even a $100k Mercedes.

You're in Westchester? Drive across the Tapp and take it to Leo Kaytes in Orange County. Call them and ask for mike in service. They have always done right by me and let them know of your issue. Also make sure you tell them of your experiences with other dealerships. Be prepared to bring it in and wait. Nothing gets fixed in a minute so yes be prepared to wait. Even if you buy a 110k car you would still have to wait for it to be looked at although you would probably get a loaner lol.

What does that have to do with anything?

I agree. My coworkers purchased BMW 3 series for less money than a V8 mustang, and when they do the complementary scheduled maintenance, the dealership sends out a flatbed truck, WITH the loaner car, they give you the loaner car, take yours, and then are willing to drop it off again.

I have a $42k Nissan Pathfinder, which isn't more expensive than a Mustang V8, but when I take it into Nissan dealerships, I don't get service nearly this bad. I actually give them the car over breaks and they just tuck it away in the corner of their lot when work is done.

The $40k infiniti that we had, the service dept receptionist used to come around with a tray and serve you coffee in the waiting area, if you didn't want to take the loaner car and wait.

My 2010 Genesis coupe ran into similar "service dept customer service from the 80's". I called Hyundai corporate and while they did say they had no control over independent dealerships, they would have a talk with the dealer manager. I got a call the next day from dealership, I brought the car in, the service manager ran out with keys to brand new sonata as a loaner, and said, "I do apologize that you had a bad experience. DOn't even come inside, take the loaner and we'll call you when your car is all repaired". The service adviser later told me that Hyundai corporate was trying a "prestige" status for dealerships fixing the prestige line of Hyundais (Genesis and Equus), and the genesis customers getting preferential treatment would result in dealership eventually getting this "status". The status never did happen, but the service adviser told me a year later, that Hyundai decided to consider Sonata customers into this "luxury" service category, and I have to say that SOME hyundai dealerships really turned their customer service around.

I ditched Hyundai because they wanted $5-$8k for clutch replacement, and the "quality" customer service was hit or miss on dealership basis.

I am just surprised that I have tried 8 dealerships and they all seem to have the attitude, "we are too busy with business, so we don't really need yours..." Generally I find that NYC are car dealerships are snotty in attitude and there are HUGE turnover rates for salespeople, but I have to say, the NYC area Ford dealership experience so far feels like I am back in 1980's.

I love my Mustang to death, but when the dealer service sucks this badly, I am willing to look at other vehicles.

I hate the look of the new G coupes, but heck, you get everything short of manicures when you drive it into their service. I hate what the 370z has become, but when you drive one into Nissan service, the technicians baby it, and many dealers have a "Z specialist" (they actually have a "certificate" on their walls) that only work on your car.

Ford has a product line that will hold water against ANY foreign products, but with their crappy-ass dealership networks, it will not matter that their car is made to a whole new level.

I am afraid that when I take the mustang in and complain about the faint whirring sound from my back wheels, I will get a response like, "It's a Ford, what did you expect?"

I don't get some foo-foo spa treatment when I take my car in, nor do I want that...but my local dealer is very professional. That's really all I expect.

Thank you Steve,

I just looked them up. They are an HOUR away without traffic. If all else fails, then I will contact them, unfortunately the problem happens in the morning after the car has been sitting cold overnight.

As for the $110k car, I have a friend in westchester that has a V12 aston martin in his garage, and when he needs to have car serviced, a closed car carrier comes to his house and picks up the car and then drops it off at ANYTIME of his choosing.

Again, my coworkers all swear by BMW's because spending $40k on a mid-level 3 series will get them the same level of service that someone gets from buying their flagship.

My brother-in-law bought an X5 many years ago from a dealer an hour away. They would send a flatbed out to pickup his car (and give him his loaner) and then drive it out again and deliver it. He traded it in for an X1 that he got from a dealership two hours away. They had no problem sending out a truck TWO hours away to pickup his car for the scheduled maintenance. the other dealers in the area will also gladly come pickup his car with a flatbed, even though he didn't buy from them. And the X1 is NOT more expensive than the most expensive Mustangs.

Are lincoln service as bad as Ford too? I noticed that many dealers are Ford/Lincoln dealers.
