Take a magic marker and black out the border that doesn't have paint, it will look like it's part of the frame...Or take black tape and do the edge of your plate.

Thanks! I agree with you I need to fix the border, but I think I am going to change the frames. The bottom of this perimeter frame leans into the bumper too much and I think over time it would scratch it.

I have these fishing plates on my '14 Ram 2500 and they are actually finished so the perimeter frames would look better and hang properly without scratching.

The trick is to find a nice set of frames that would show the whole plate without blocking any lettering as it is illegal in New York to block any part of the written plate. And I certainly don't need to give the money hungry local authorities any assistance in finding a reason to pull me over, especially something as trivial as license plate frames.

I couldn't agree with you more. They used to be these:

Then a few years back in order to create revenue during the recession the Governor then who happens to be LEGALLY BLIND put forth the change to these hideous "State Colors" ones. It caused a big uproar and he didn't last long as governor anyhow, but the plates are still here.

Only way to avoid it is get "special plates". So I have fishing plates on my truck and these Masonic plates on my Durango.

I also have classic 1964 World's Fair plates on my '65 Mustang.

It costs a small fortune to customize the special regional/sports/club plates so customized ugly ones it is for now.
