UPDATE:

Well as my google reseach had helped me it is in fact the evap on the fuel line from tank to engine. So they confirmed what I thought. Here is my breakdown of their service. Although its still pending having the part installed.

Initial visit- not that positive. He made me think they would not be able to deal with it. I think better knowledge of their own vehicles would have been re-assuring.

Plus point. If you pick certain days you can get a free courtesty car.

Drop off. Easy enough. Dropped it at 8am got a call by 2pm.

So the parts and labor is £80. I saw the part for sale. Its £30 and a 10 minute job. So looks like they will max that to an hour ( expected )

So all in all its not too bad. But. Paying £140 to have a diagnostic done for me is a rip off. I have ordered myself one for £40. I will test is on my car as its not going in for the part change for 9 days and see if it brings up teh same codes etc.

So my main gripe is would they try to charge me for this every single time.

you got it fixed which is a result and yeah they'll charge you every single time even if the failure is obvious

Thanks for that, I really appreciate knowing there was a specialist closer to me. I will ring them tomorrow and talk to them.

I am new to windermere. So its weird to move at Xmas time and its just dark and rain all the time. I will spend all my summer on the lake kayaking I hope and swimming in the water is clean enough.

Thanks again.

the whol run a diagnostic is a bit of a scam really isnt it. £140 to plug it in and check the fault codes. But hey ho hahah

The reason they do it is because folks take their car in because there is a problem - get it diagnosed by the garage then decline the repair - do it themselves or elsewhere. The dealer spends time diagnosing but then gets nothing.

As to how much - that is a different matter

That's my point though. The could do it like this.

Stand alone diagnostic £140 ( to deter what you say above )

Diagnostic used in combination with repair £60 ( I think thats still high for 30 minutes work ) but its ok considering its a dealership.

I think by having such high Diagnostic fees they are pushing Customers elsewhere.

UPDATE:

So I took it in last week for the change on my evap. In doing so they broke the can. Now the car canot move and was told another 7-10 dats wait for the part.

I complained a lot and got a courtesy puma ( suck ) to drive in teh mean time. But that was another £300 for that part. And No car. They called me today so its been 6 days since my car was there. The part had arrived and been fitted and all Codes cleared. So went to get my car. Running nicely now.

On start up they "change oil Soon" light comes up. I just dont know why when they had the car for 6 days and this must have come up they did not offer to do the oil change at the same time.

Not the greatest experience I have to say.
