He was never going to buy it....
But sometimes it is fun to dream...and most people do. And then some folks reach out and grab their dream, only to find one day, that the best day of ownership was the day they sold it (at a loss). Been there, done that.

Hello; Was the title of the thread a hint? For some of us $450 K for an expensive toy is out of the question. For others such may be pocket change. While buying a GT is not like setting fire to a pile of cash, but it could be a total loss. Wrecks, fire or even hidden damage could spoil someone's whole year.
We all tend to get the "big eye" for something desirable. Only see the good side of the thing. A neighbor had me go look at a half-finished house last winter. A young couple had the big eye for a McMansion but got into financial trouble. The house was under roof but nowhere near finished. I looked it over as he asked and found the work decent. There were too many questionable with the deal so i tried to talk him out of buying.
A telling example will do. I had look at the subdivision 16 years ago and decided not to buy land there. Had several pages of rules and restrictions. Such was one of the things I mentioned a few times. Months pass and he drops by in a huff. The sellers and contractor had told him he could put up a fence around the property. Thing is he finally asked for a copy of the subdivision rules which i had mentioned. Rules only allow a fence around a pool.
I do not mind that the OP asked before. His final choice makes sense. I get that we only live once. A thing is we sometimes have to live with a bad choice for a long time.

Like many here, Ive never had the opportunity to drive a GT or R8 but I can only imagine that R8 is every bit as exciting and probably a better driver. You have 2 beautiful collectors. I think you'll be ok without the GT :)

You’re still in this, Chris ! If you live in an area outside the cramped urban roads where your car is safer from collision and debris strikes..you will enjoy rides in the GT immensely. As mentioned, the car draws a crowd everywhere and your garage never looked better. The investment appreciates every year and should continue. Plus, the white with blue stripes is the sharpest color on that palette to me. It shows the lines and curves better.
The R and the Audi should eventually appreciate, but they may not.
I think it’s an opportunity to upgrade to the elite level.

Hello; I get this is likely true with caveats. Assumes the car will indeed be pristine and will not be damaged over the time he owns it.
The car is approaching 20 years old and my guess is spare parts are not common. Repairs and/or upkeep can eat into the investment outcome.
Likely the best way to hold an investment advantage will be to store it and not drive it. Have not been there in a couple of years but the Ted Russell Ford dealership at Parkside in Knoxville TN had a GT on display for several years. It was red with white stripes, I think.

Learn a bunch before you invest !
This is to enrich your life, not some dude in Superman underpants. There is a lot to know about these cars.

Still available - some things I didn’t like that also pushed me. Had the rear bumper delete mod that looks sexy as hell but no stock bumper so that was an issue. It had the gray painted caliper option from the factory but the guy painted them red which also bothered me and that wasn’t disclosed. Had an aftermarket exhaust with no stock exhaust. And he swapped the seatbelts from red to blue but had the stock belts so that was fine. Was told car had full PPF and it did but was def in need of replacement. So what was once a perfect car for me price and spec wise ended up having some nuances that eroded the “relative value” to me…I normally wouldn’t care as much about the above on a more standard car but the oem parts are increasingly rare, expensive, and this is the kinda car that people want either original OR with all the original parts…still sweet, just more inline with market price vs a perfect deal for me.

The upside is that trashed PPF means the car was driven often which is way better than garage queen.

Could likely track down he stock parts over time.

Sounds like a great drivers car VS investment piece which is a blessing in that can daily it with out worrying about depreciation....how it should be.

Many folks now daily these grade of cars VS letting them go stale in storage....

If you're not going to drive it and its strictly an investment then pass. But if you plan to take this thing out then definitely yes. Missing original pieces is a concern but maybe that gives you a negotiating advantage and you can get the price down. The opportunity to own a GT seems hard to pass up.
