I was at the grocery store today and when I came out I seen these scuff marks on my driver side bumper and I look over and there was a shopping cart next to my car. Only thing I can assume is that some careless person nicked my car with the cart and I work to hard to keep my car looking nice and for someone else to scratch it I get pretty mad. I usually go out of my way to park my car from the store and everyone else but this parking lot was small so there was no where to go. What are the best ways to remove or hide the scratches .

This is why I don't want to go into any parking lot

I would be so mad! Wow that is terrible. Too bad you can't get a look at video tape from the parking lot to find out who did it. They should really be paying to fix that.

That's why I park at the other end of the parking lot usually the furthest from any entrance. It irks my wife esp during Canadian winters.

I don't think its completely carelessness as the title suggests. I think jealousy plays a big part too... that is truly sad.

Before you jump and do this, you need to know what you're getting into.

Just hitting it with a compound could require followup applications of lesser abrasive polishes.

Checkout some of the detailing forums like Autogeek.net for some examples. If you don't have the information at hand, you can just make it worse overall and then you may need to either buy a lot of materials and a DA polisher, or take it to a detailer to have it corrected. You always want to start with the lightest cutting compound first.

Looking more closely at the pic, I don't know if you're going to be able to get that out well by hand. Even with a machine you may be left with some residual marks. I'd probably look at the advice of a pro and see if you need to make an insurance claim for a repaint.

Yeah I'm with you, I usually don't care how far I have to walk to protect my car. But it was a Sunday and the parking lot is small. I didn't want to pay for parking when I was just going to take about 10 min. I just wish I had seen the person do it. I would feel much better if the person had the decency to leave a note at least.

I wish I could do that. I would track them down and be at their door step in the morning. lol

im happy it wasn't a dent. that really would have hurt your feelings. I hope it can be buffed out. parking lots are my biggest fear. no one will take responsibility for the damage..... its just a bend over and take it situation.

Next time do what i do, infact all of you who really care about their cars, park as far away from other people!! You just need to walk a little but hey its a good exercise too.

Jealousy? I doubt that. In parking lots with carts I see a lot of elementary age kids "helping" their parents by driving the cart. I also see a lot of adults who are in a hurry and just give the cart a push and hope it finds its way somewhere. I've even seen people not pay attention while pulling into a spot where some lazy person has left a cart in a parking spot and run into the cart, sending it off into another car. Parking lots are a crazy crap shoot between door dings and runaway carts :tsk:

Id do a claybar or good wax and buff. I'm sure most will come out. I wouldn't hit that with rubbing compound, personally. That sucks. Like you mentioned fortunately it was the bumper and not a dented panel.
