Ive never thought ordering a vehicle was so difficult. My dealer literally made it an ordeal. because no one can give me straight answers I've decided to cancel my order, get my deposit back and I'm going to another dealer on the island.
Heres how it all started:

12/30: I ordered my Mustang GT through my dealer. I kinda thought something was sort of off because my salesman wanted to run me for credit and process it like a deal basically. I told him that it was not a contract to buy and that it is only an order for a vehicle. He stated that he was new and that he was new to ordering cars (i later learned he was being transferred to fleet sales, so certainly he knew how to do a retail order) Needless to say, it took over 30 minutes just to get me to sign a receipt and charge my card. After that, i left.

01/02: I called my salesperson for the DORA. Of course he didn't know what it was and i explained it to him. He said that once he gets it he would email it to me.

01/05: Salesman stated he received the DORA and would be emailed to me. DORA was dated 01/02. I was fine with that.

This is where it gets worse:

Around 01/08 or so i called my salesperson to change my order (at the time wanted to change to an EcoBoost Premium) so he said no problem, come on by.

Went to the dealer on 01/12, walked in, and found my salesperson. WE went for a drive in a GT because they finally had one to drive. I then said now i want to change it and make it a GT again (but in a different configuration) he stated he already canceled the first order and that we can start fresh. (I think maybe i threw him for a loop because i changed my mind so easily and what not, but this time i was sure) Needless to say, i was at the dealership for almost an hour while he changed my order and got me a new receipt. I found that really odd and left.

01/14: I emailed my salesperson for the DORA. He said that the factory didn't even send it to them and that he would email it to me when they received it. Thought that was off, so i left it at .

01/15: Im getting upset. No DORA. I decided to call the purchasing clerk and ask for my DORA. I got a receptionist and gave her my info to give to the purchasing clerk. The clerk told her that she would only release that info to my salesperson. I decided to email Rachel @FordService and ask her if she could see any orders from my dealer. As of yesterday, she stated she could not see any orders submitted from my dealer!!!! I was furious. I talked to a sales manager and explained my situation. He said that my salesperson would call me and give me the info i wanted. (Now its phone tag at this point) Salesman called me, gave me the same story, "ill send it to you when we get it from the factory." Thats it. I called and asked for the General Manager. I explained to him my situation and how frustrated i was and that i never imagined it to be this hard to order a vehicle, especially since i read about guys on here going in and out of the dealer in 30 minutes, DORA in hand! (before i called my dealer, i called another very well known Ford Dealer on the island and spoke to the GM there. He stated that his salesman gives customers the DORA right before they leave the dealer. The GM stated to me that they only order on certain days, and that my salesman was new and may have done some stuff out of protocol. I asked him to make it right to keep my business. I asked to be bumped up on priority, but he even admitted to me he wouldn't know how to do it! I also asked for a discount off the car (something small, $1k) and flat out told me no. Maybe that was out of line on my part, but i felt it was worth a shot.

I stated i wanted my deposit back because i no longer have confidence in the dealer and that ordering a simple vehicle turned out to be a large game. I got my deposit back and now I'm going to that well known Ford dealer, where i should have gone in the first place.

Sorry, after reading on here how easy it was for a lot of you to order your cars, it was a bloody ordeal for me!

Sorry man. The current dealer system is so broken. I had one salesman I was going to give my business to when I test drove a month ago and he's already gone. The turnover in this "industry" is unreal. Meanwhile the guy who replaced him is sending me emails about used cars (1995 Blazer Low Miles!!!! Extra Clean!!!11one1!11)

What a waste of time. When I go back in there I am going to demand the salesman who has been there since Day One and only order from him. I absolutely hate this hot potato salesman crap. You'll inevitably get stuck with some scrub who just got hired and has no idea what they are doing.

Oh how I wish I could just go to a hypothetical "ordermyford.com" and bypass this whole 1950's era antiquated, bloated, costly, no-value-added car sales process :(

I know what you mean. At the same time i think they played me because he probably thought i was some bratty young kid buying it with mommy and daddy money just playing it up because its a mustang, when in fact thats all not true.

Sorry, Tamadrummer88, for your experience. That isn't something that someone should go through when spending that kind of $$ for a major purchase. Don't know if the Ford reps here can give you a hand with your local people, Rachel has been a star keeping me informed of my status.

Love the idea of being able to just go on line, pick your goodies and place the order.

I had Rachel in the loop when i was playing phone tag with the dealer yesterday. What burned me up was that she couldn't find any orders placed for my dealer! My question was when was the clerk gonna place my order?

Look this one is 100% your fault, and Im usually critical of dealers. You dont change something as significant as your model 15 times and expect not to have issues. I mean how does one not know if they want a 4 or 8 cylinder Mustang when they decide to order? And then to go back and forth. I would have canceled your order and told you to walk. I mean you had a GT confirmed order and you canceled it and now you're complaining that nobody took you seriously when you went back a third time to change from a ecoboost back to a GT? No duh. I wouldnt have taken you seriously either.

Did I say he doesn't have a right to change his mind? But when you go around changing your model on an order with a DORA twice dont come whining to us like you're some victim. Yeah orders will get complicated when you have user error complicating the fudge out of things.

Which order? You mean the THIRD order? Because reading his hot mess of a post, I gather there was clearly a DORA on the first GT order, then he is purposely ambiguously vague on whether or not there was a DORA on the SECOND ecoboost order on 1/8. Now hes saying he doesnt have a DORA on his THIRD order for a GT again? Oh boo hoo. I mean he sure got 2 orders in just fine.

Problem here is there is no need to cancel orders. You can change the original order in the system w/o cancelling anything. Many people here have done that.

I doubt you can change easily from a 201A to a 401A. Thats a model difference. You can add options yeah, but you cant bounce around from a ecoboost base to a gt base back and forth.

Up until you get scheduled and have a VIN you can change anything. Once you have a VIN that change would need cancelled.

100% agree. How can people complain about dealers, when they jump around like in a Wendy restaurant changing 5 times a burger? I would not take anyone serious who calls in one week a couple times, changing 3 times the car. I would have given the customer without asking the money back and asked him to pull this jokes elsewhere.

Before you order, please get your mind up what engine should be in the car in the 1st place. I have no problems with people who maybe change there mind about a package they like to change or color on their order. I did read that and was only thinking: "He can't be serious asking for 3 DORA's."; when in fact, he should have one DORA what is changed. My dealer only wrote the PP on my DORA what I did order 2 days later on top.

He is like a friend of my son. "I like to have the DELUXE burger, please. Without tomato, onion, pickles, mustard and mayo, please. Thanks! (That was his order!) A frixxx meat pad with bun and ketchup! But he paid for the Deluxe burger meal! People! :tsk:

Just so you know... when we submit an order the first submission is very simple, going in and changing we need to wait anywhere from 1-10 days for changes to populate. if you want to change an order is not the problem originally, but when you want to swap things back and forth rapidly, it makes for alot of possible problem with codes in the system not correcting and putting the vehicle in a production hold. we generally need to wait a full week to make a second change... this is why as a dealer, hearing people talk about how its just a click and simple, I Laugh. The order can populate without code corrections which means we need to review the order until all changes come through or the car will never be produced.
