Guy's please don't shred me...I'm only asking for some education. Whipple is the SC system that I will be ordering, I was just wondering about HP to Torque ratio's.

I always assumed from my limited knowledge about this, that there was a percentage ratio between HP and Torque. Kind of like 15% parasitic loss in relation to crank numbers and RW numbers.

Until the new 2015 Whipple came out...I was looking at the FRPP/Whipple SC that was offered for the 2014 5.0, It had 624 RWHP @6900rpm and 536RWTQ @4700rpm with 9lbs. of boost.

So...why is it that the new system produces so much more HP in relation to torque being the same or in some of the videos in the thread actually showing a bit less torque?

I do understand that of course the HP has increased due to improvements, but why hasn't there been a corresponding increase in torque?

Another member mentioned on this thread that VMP's TVS systems make excellent torque. The old version of Whipple SC was the same 2.3 TVS type SC system.

Does that type system, just happen to make more torque ?

Please help me understand...much appreciated.
Just to correct something, the 624 hp / 536 lb-ft torque figures are rated at the flywheel, and not at the rear wheels.

Really? Are you sure about that? So were looking at 530 HP / 456 lb-ft
Respectively? Assuming 15% loss. That doesn't sound right!

Can anyone else confirm?

Yes, the numbers that Ford/roush advertise are at the flywheel.

Wow! That's enlightening. So I just went to VMP site, their advertising for the TVS generation 2, 2.3L for the 5.0, 600 + RWHP, With dyno chart showing
645 HP.

Please bare with me...I think its safe to assume that now I'm really confused.

So what are the numbers that Whipple is advertizing for the RW's?

Lethal performance posted a dyno of the whipple kit. With the whipple tune it made 647 rwhp.

Let me throw a bit of knowledge at you.

The FRPP/Whipple kit for the Coyote was rated at the FW. That is with the FRPP tune which is super soft. I think it had a warranty too. They CHOSE to rate it that low. That exact combo with a different pulley and tune will make high 600's.

The VMP TVS is rated at the wheels and the tune is set on "kill". No warranty.

Both of the above blowers are 2.3L and have a pretty good setup. They will make nearly identical power.

The S550 Whipple is a 2.9L and they are not associated with FRPP on the project so they are advertising rear wheel numbers. They don't have FRPP looking over their shoulder. The 2.9L has a lot of headroom in it. It will probably make 900 set on kill.

It's possible but I would be really surprised if Whipple offers a warranty at 650rwhp. It's possible, but I doubt it.

At the end of the day, all things being equal a 2.3 will make what other 2.3's do. A 2.9 will make what other 2.9's will make, etc, etc, etc. Don't get hung up on claimed numbers to much. Buy the right blower for your goals. If you want to make 550 there is no reason to run a blower that will make a 1000. And if you want 800hp don't buy a blower that is all maxed out at 700hp.

It's a right tool for the job thing.

They are running that blower soft too (slow). Looks like they are spinning it to 12,500rpm. If they ran that to its max of 18,000rpm it would scatter that motor across 4 states!:headbang:
Lol, yeah they were babying that blower. I'm just shooting for around 700 rwhp at first, maybe a little lower. However, I know myself pretty well. Once I get use to that power, I will want more. For more power I will just be a pulley and tune away. :headbang:

For more power I will just be a pulley, tune, clutch, trans, driveshaft, half shafts, rear subframe bushing kit, diff, engine mounts, high end IC water pump and a bigger fuel system away. :headbang:

No worries my man.

I have this strange drive (I think it's strange because I don't see it from others much) to tell it like it is. Sometimes that hurts my sales because I tell people what I have does not meet their goals. But I can sleep at night knowing I didn't steer someone in the wrong direction.

From a business standpoint it is not the smartest policy. From a personal standpoint I can't do it any other way.

There is a lot of smoke & mirrors, half truths and flat out lies in this business. I refuse to be part of it.
