That’s the GT-H, not the GT500-H, it has the 5.0 badge on the fender. Also, the GT500-H is not available in convertible form that I’m aware of.

Yeah definitely a 5.0. Never seen these before. Looked like someone with a 5.0 slapped some eBay Shelby emblems on it.

It was hard to tell from the picture but it does say Shelby on the back so how is it a 5.0? My phone must not be as good because I can’t see a 5.0 badge.

It’s a program with Shelby and Hertz. They’ve been doing it a long time. They are cool, there’s a couple folks in our local Mustang club that have them. Both a white one and black one. They’re cool to see in the wild, not many around. I almost bought one when Hertz (and others) were selling their fleets during Covid when nobody was renting cars

I do see it now that I enhanced it. So why does it say Shelby? I’m just learning here myself.

They have both the GT and GT500 programs. Front driver side fender, the chrome 5.0 badge is there

Started back in the 60’s, Shelby partnered with Hertz for rentals with a little extra oomph. Black paint and gold stripes. Guys used to rent them for the weekend, take them to their garage at home and swap the engines LOL (or so I’ve heard, before my time).

Since then, Shelby and Hertz have continued the program on and off from what I know. I believe it went away for a while when the Shelby/Ford partnership ended but was revived with S197. The Shelby GT-H was made pre-facelift S550 and post facelift. The Shelby GT500-H rolled out when the GT500 came out. I’ve seen a GT500-H at Hartsfield-Jackson Jackson International in ATL, it looks great in black and gold.

The GT-H is basically the Shelby GT treatment that we can get on our GT’s, just in Hertz coloring (and maybe a few other Hertz specific things).

edit to add: at least for the post-facelift GT, Hertz offered both black and white with gold stripes. They’re sold to public after a few years of service like every other rental in their fleet

I love the backstory. Thanks for the information. But I still say a 5.0 should not be called a Shelby. Almost as bad as calling a 5.0 at Hennessey to me.

so I guess my initial question still exists. How is a 5.0 a Shelby. Maybe it was a deal between Shelby and Hertz?

Yes. I can send my GT to Shelby American for the Shelby GT package and it will come back with a CSM and Shelby on the grille and taillight panel. Same applies to the Hertz Shelby GT-H. As Wingnutt notes above, they’re available for rent and some of the major airports around the country. But it is a deal between Hertz and Shelby to convert Mustang GT’s to Shelby GT’s.
