If he goes in there talking about his scanners, and tuning the car, it will be assumed. And they'll look harder and deeper.

Whereas if he just keeps his damn mouth shut, he'll be fine.

You can lead a horse to water.....
I sort of agree with you. If it were any other tune I’d play stupid. But with a Ford tune, I’d be more transparent.

Back when I had my 14 Focus ST, I had the FRPP tune package. Had the local dealer install it cause I didn’t want the hassle. Tech was cool and showed me how to use the pro cal properly in case I ever need to for some reason.

I agree with you that if you’re not familiar with your dealer, or they’re not mod friendly, probably keep mouth shut. But if they’re a FP dealer, or support that sort of thing, I’ve found them to be helpful in that regard. It’s less of a,“how can we deny you,” situation vs let’s see what’s going on and then make a decision if we’re going to cover it.

Or.....take the assured route. Play it cool and safe.

Look;

You're not supposed to be touching that thing. Ford denies warranty claims over people tuning their car. They'll tell you they're not fixing anything. If you tell them you have scanners/tuners, they'll say (rightly) that YOU broke it by fucking with something you're not supposed to be touching.

Your smart move would be to take the car in for emissions testing, have it fail, and then take the car in so the OBDII port can be fixed.

Don't say a word, just tell them it doesn't pass emissions. Emissions is something that is completely covered under warranty. Let them figure out it's a problem with the port.

And put the car back to stock ASAP.

And you're in Portland. I'm guessing they have emissions testing there.
If I did not say a
They can say you caused the damage. Especially since you took it apart and tried to fix it yourself.

I don't see why that's so difficult to understand.
I also pressed downward pressure while it was mounted from outside the casing I did not take it apart. I took it off it's mount to look at it. Anyway no matter what you say or what I say it is up to ford. The dealership said it will be replaced under warranty

I agree with you. Also there are different levels of investigsting and honoring a warranty claim. A tech sees the port is broken, and I ay broken by the scanner not able to connect to the car. Physically it is not broken, atleast on the outside casing. The tech replace it. If there is no evidence of not been taken apart, and it was not take apart, then no issue there. Talking about a $150 dollar part retail. I know, I checked. Now if I have a blown engine, Ford is going to want more info from the tech. If I tried to hide a tune by reverting back to stock, they can tell by the amount of startups the computer sees. If I had 5 stertups with 7k miles on it, that woukd look questionable. If they see 5 stertups with the ford tune then they know it's from Ford. Again if the scanner can't connect to the car, it is a bad part. They can't tell anything until the port is fixed.

So I have been having issues with my procal 4. I would plug it into the port and would get power. But says ecu not found.. new it was not fuse since I got power. I unplugged the back connector and it looked good. I pushed the wires in to make sure. Did not work. Now this is a 21 mustang with 5k miles on it. Just bought it a few months ago. I was going nuts over this. Tried my other scanner and thdt did not work. I want install the power pack but wanted the tune uploaded first. I kept unplugging and pluggin in the procal. Out of frustration I pushed it in and held it there. I was applying some downward pressure and all of a sudden the scanner found the vin and so forth. Great. It was saving the stock tune and I let go of the plug and the scanner turned off. I put downward pressure on it again and it worked. So I took a trim tool and put it between the port and dash to apply downward pressure so it would save the tune. I'm not going to hold it there the whole time. This was a few days ago. So tonight I removed the port with the harness still plugged in. Did not realize how big it was. Anyway the scan tool would not see the ECU unless I put downward pressure on the connector itself.

I'm going to ford and have it replaced under warranty. I want to do some data logging. So any of you having OBD2 port problems apply downward pressure and see if thdt works. Maybe a loose solder or cracked solder joint inside the box. This was built during covid
I have a 2017 and I have to wiggle my RTD to get it to go green and recognize my car. This is after 4 years of plugging in all sorts of various tuners etc tho.
Funny thing is my SCT has no problem syncing.

Dealership is backed up 2 weeks. Plus I wouldn't be to leave it. Not wait. So I decided to take it apart. What I found was the metal guide inside the actual port was being pushed inward so when the scanner was hooked up, it would barley make contact when apply pressure. I took small screw driver. Pushed it back out into the the socket, and down so it would stay. I kepts pluggong the scanner I. When it was apart to make sure the funds would stay. It did. Put it back together and mounted the port. All is well. So now yes I voided my warranty on the port, however there is no evidence it was taken apart.

Okay thx I'm not at that stage where it's that big of a pain, yet. Was thinking maybe pins but the whole RTD is loose when inside the OBD housing. But sounds like that could be my problem as well.
I wouldn't be worried about warranty on a little part like that if I were you. What they don't know won't hurt them.

I know. Not worried. But a guy eier in the thread was saying how warranty would be denied because I put on the ford power pack with tune, and he thought at that time thdt I took apart the housing.

You have to take what people on here as advice only. Some think they're Jacks of all trades but are really masters of none. I wouldn't take them seriously and just do your own research.
