Also have fond memories of these kits as a kid, fighter jets and rally cars I seem to remember. In the last couple of years I've acquired these 2 kits. Ashamed to say they are still untouched!

Good thread for motivation though, other than the lack of free time, I don't really have all the kit needed to do a proper job. There is a hobby store in town however, and I have some free time at the weekend :sunglasses:

I built a 1:24 65/66 GT350 years ago. It's been packed away. It turned out really nice.

Some of the modelers I have seen do builds online - man, some of them are so detailed right down to the numbers on the speedos!

I always try to support my local stores so happy to hear you do as well. Unfortunately my local store is pretty bare due to current events but I did find a pretty good online hobby site that isn't something like amazon. I was looking for a model of a Cobra 427 but the ones I found were lower skill level and/or the 289 version. That one you shared looks like it would be a great build for sure! Can't wait to see/read about your progress!

Would love to see that GT350 if you ever got a chance to dig it out.

Some of the modelers online are insane with the detail! My hands aren't steady enough to do some of the stuff I would like to do let alone what those rock stars get done.

Well my stuff came in today and got to work. With turntables for painting, I also decided to make an impromptu paint booth kind of thing. Couldn’t help myself and got started with matte black sprayed on the under side of hood and body. Drys quick and only needed the one coat so I untaped everything and cleaned it up and washed it. Put some gloves on and got a coat on the exterior. Going black metallic hood with a burgundy red metallic for the main body. Plan on fine sanding between coats and getting it as perfect as I can before clear polish clear polish clear polish. The goal being as smooth as my real car is. Here’s some pics of my “paint booth” and apologies for the messy garage, been busy and injured and busy and injured some more. Life is awesome.

Some of the classic model kits go for BIG bucks. The 60s-70s era of model kits had the best box graphics IMO.

Yes. About 20 years ago I bought a still factory-sealed AMT '67 Cougar on eBay to build a replica of my real car. I forget what I paid for it exactly (it was a lot) and the wife would shit a brick if she had any idea.

It, and many others along with my fairly extensive 1:18 diecast collection, are proudly displayed in a small room in the basement dedicated solely to them and other automobilia. If I remember I'll try get a few shots of the madness.

I still have a ton of plastic kits I'll probably never get around to building as well...

It’s coming along nicely. The black metallic for the hood is actually more grey than black but oh well. The red is looking amazing! Loving my current setup for spraying. Because mid back issues I can’t sit and do the small stuff just yet but walking to the garage to spray is perfectly fine.

The aforementioned 1:24 Cougar, built to duplicate my car at the time, right down to the Kelsey Hayes wheels and redlines. My woodworker buddy made the wall mount base.

Yeah, it's gotten a little out of hand, and it's spilled into the adjoining room that contains my bar. Sad part is I don't go down there all that much other than during the winter.

Amazing collection!! Department store case top shelf yellow Boss 302 looks to be the same kit I'm building now. I only hope to get as good at modelling as you are sir! After my Boss 302 is done, I plan on using my woodworking skills to make a case that fits somewhere in the house and then I'll attempt to stop when it's full. Or I'll copy your wall mounted single car idea... We shall see.

This thread is reminding me of an old large-scale (bigger than 1:18, maybe 1:16?) 427 Cobra kit that a friend gave me eons ago that I really need to dig out and build....

I spotted the grabber blue Torino. Very cool... I had a 1:1 model :) ....1970 429SCJ, ram air, top loader 4 spd, 3" hooker headers....
