...yea, your opinion.
It's like ; partly cloudy or partly sunny (et al)
You can look at it objectively too; check the survival rating of a bike vs a car.

I had to quit riding because of vertigo that started about 15 years ago. I couldn't turn. Still can't even ride a two wheel bike. I also had to give up flying RC planes and helicopters, because I can't look up. If I am in my office in our lower level and my wife asks me to toss something up to her on the upper level, I have to close my eyes. It just sucks!

People think I sound like an old man (I'm 29) but seriously, people are addicted to smart phones. I don't get it. I'd rather be at the track or on my computer simulating track time.
I prefer the track as well. šŸ™‚

I can respect your decision, especially in your situation with a young one. Anybody that rides can certainly relate to your incident. Iā€™m 63 & currently own three Harleys, been riding since I was an early teen and have had my fair share of close calls, some my own fault. The one thing me & the wife will never do is give up ridingā€¦my health will dictate that.

Iā€™ll play with a dirt bike on my local street or off road, but thereā€™s no way Iā€™d ever ride a bike on the street with the current USA in 2021 version of a licensed driver especially within 50 miles of a major city. In 1950ā€™s
-70ā€™s sure. Now, youā€™d have to pay me SAG stuntman rates.

Back in the fall of 2009 I clipped a deer one evening on a favorite backroad on one of my Harleys. Thanks to my riding gear (wear it at all times, kids), I made it out alive but still spent a night in the hospital with a wicked concussion and for the following week I felt like I had taken one hell of an ass kicking. Turns out hitting a large animal and then hitting the pavement at highway speed sort of hurts, who knew?

I still ride, but much less than before, The Deer Incident took some of the fun out of it. Not to mention I rarely have any interest in riding in any sizeable town/city due to the stupidity of the average driver these days. It's brief (an hour or less) backroad rides for me now during daylight hours only. Still, I tend to want to ride on those perfect days versus taking out one of the fun cars and have four bikes on hand. At this point I'm not sure I'll ever stop riding (it's just more fun than a car), but I see it waning more and more as I age. Maybe I'll sell them all and use the stall they occupy to buy another car eventually once health dictates it one way or another.

I totally understand someone wanting to hang it up, especially with young kids.

...by the way,
I don't condemn anyone that 'hangs up' their riding gear.
It should be a personal choice and no one should dictate riding to
anyone. Just knowing you could be at fault for convincing someone
to keep riding.

In October of 2002, wifey and I were riding a Harley and hit a horse that ran out
in front of us and I couldn't avoid it.
I hit the horse in the left rear leg area and where my right hand was on the
front brake, it locked the front wheel throwing us to the ground.
I hit on my left chest area @ 45 mph and slid down the road 20 ft.
My right wrist/hand was broken and the bones pulverized. I broke 5 ribs
down my spine and a severe cut on my forehead from a busted helmet.
When I had heart surgery in 2016, the Surgeon asked me when I came to; "what
happened to your chest?" No one doctored me for that.
My wife had to have a right leg Tibial Plateau and still has trouble. (her Right
leg looks like she had Polio)

We still ride every time we can; probably 200,000 miles since then.............

Ive had my fair shares of going down, some are my fault, some are others, im lucky to be alive. I had dedicated track bikes, dedicated stunt bikes, touring bikes etc.. Now I just have 2 bikes and I dont really mess around anymore. havnt done any shenanigans in over a year. Isn't worth the risk (I mean highway wheelies for miles standing up) I sold all my gear, and just commute.

As for giving up riding, only you can decide if its worth the risk. Its definitely scary at times, and rewarding at others. Ive been down at 5mph, 15, 40, 70 and 90mph. fortunately, no broken bones, just a bit of road rash and over the years its all faded out, I covered up with tattoos. minimal long term scarring.

Never let anyone make the choice for you to ride or not. Ive seen people die at my sides during riding before. Despite what anyone says, there's a major risk of life every time you get on that bike, it isn't like a car. (cars can die too) but there's nothing protecting you from anything off that bike during a crash or wreck

People think that they're going to get killed on a motorcycle should realize
that when your time is up, it is up.
Doesn't matter if you are on a bike, in a boat or car or on an airplane.
The Grim Reaper doesn't care................................
Absolutely, you can survive the baddest car accident like I did and just walk away with a broken ankle bone when I should of been dead. Enjoy your life whether bike or car.

I've had this bike for exactly 1 year and have put over 17,000 miles on it. And that includes 5 months of being in my house during the winter. šŸ˜

If you should have been dead you would be. But youā€™re not. Youā€™re here. Weā€™re glad you are. Donā€™t be silly. šŸ˜Š

Save this post and hang it up on your refrigerator when you retire. I guarantee when you turn 55, and I hope you do, healthy, youā€™ll say WTF did I do to myself????! Damn, he was right!!
I have a friend who now canā€™t hold urine because of a motorcycle accident. Visualize my friend.

My first bike was a european spec Gsxr750 brought in from Canada when they werenā€˜t available in the states yet. Rode sport bikes my entire life as well as dirt. Lost to many friends to care to count, both on the street and dirt. Had one that was paralyzed from a desert race accident as well. I was lucky and was never really hurt. Had a nice Tuono V4 when my twin boys were born 4 years ago. I didnā€™t ride it after they were born, decided it was time, and they were reason enough. I just sold it about a month ago, thought Iā€˜d regret it. Luckily for me I have a wife that could care less what I buy as long as it brings me joy. Thus one Gt350 and One Gt350R Heritage in my shop. Couldnā€™t be happier.

correction: I do miss the sound of the V was every bit as unique as the 350ā€™s.
