Attached is one of the 2018 R's (27) that came in that rare color/stripe combination and found this car for a fellow enthusiast in Chicago who bought it for his Father sight unseen but of course I was all over this brand new car for him and found no issues.
Will be interesting to see what "JR021" ends hammering for based on assuming that this is a low mileage vehicle?

It is a hard color to photograph. Most pictures of it look muddy like the Mecum listing. Professional automotive journalist are trained to capture the color correctly in our cameras, as some colors are hard to photograph. This is one of those colors. If you do it wrong, you lose the real life color.
At first I hated it because I had only seen pictures of it and they all looked like someone dropped dark paint all over it—it looked muddy and uninspiring. During a TV shoot, on the commute, I saw Raptors and F150s, along with other manufacturers bardo gray. I used those Raptors and F150s to gauge if I would like the color. Koons Ford obviously employs a professionally trained photographer because they were the only dealership that had color correct pictures.
I order my car, like your friend, site-unseen as it was in Louisiana and I never saw it in person until it arrived on a enclosed transport a month later.
I get tons of compliments on the color except from some Shelby executives who constantly hand me sandpaper and say “when are you going to paint your car?”

Having grown up in the Muscle Car era without many creature comforts such as AC it is not an issue for me as that is all I knew from back in the day.I never count the Base cars per color, I count those as just the base cars. I honestly dont even use my AC 99% of time. but thats because I use heated and cooled seats, but my first car was a 81 z28 Camaro and the ac didn't work Lol. so I drove that for a few years. got used to it, I always enjoyed windows down, but I lived in key largo Florida.. where it rains a lot and scolding hot, so it was not the best experience always.
Everythign on my car is stock. I'm just a professional automotive photographer.
Living 35-40 mins away from Palm Springs, AC is a must most of the year. 80-120 F is normal, so no AC meant constant sweats, no one wanting to ride with me, and just a miserable time. For me it was too much to live through, and there cost of not having the creature comforts outweighed the benefit.
, so it's all relative, what we value most.
Yeah there are certain colors that are hard to capture, Leadfoot is one, Grabber Green is another—hell remember when Ford launched Grabber Green
on the 2020 GT500? The marketing pictures looked nothing like the color with the vibrancy turned up to 11—I guess the photographer didn't like the color and thought he would change it.
I suggest that the Lead Foot Gray car namely "JR021" is a low mileage example based on coming out of a private car collection with the consignor having a "Reserve" price set for this car.
