Hi - This may be discussed elsewhere, but since I'm a Bullitt owner I'm using this forum. A friend of mine is looking at getting the new BMW M4 Competition Coupe model and interestingly from my perspective there are a lot of visual profile similarities except the grill and tail lights. Then of course there is the PRICE. I can't tell if the indents on the hood of the M4 are functional. Is this a case of automobile design plagiarism? Bruce

I hadn't seen that new model until now, and that freaking grille is just hideous. My last BMW was an M3 V8 E92 coupe manual... and it'll stay my last. BMW is going backwards in every regard as time passes. They used to be beautiful, and also fun to drive. They started going downhill as a driver's car with the E92/93 IMO. My car felt like I was driving a freaking minivan, even with the seat all the way down. The tranny felt disconnected, even though it was a Getrag, like the MT82... but my Bullitt shifts nicer than that car. And at least I HATED the super close ratio of the tranny; engine was screaming on the highway at the tune of 3K rpm at barely 71 mph in 6th. That's what the Bullitt does at 2K rpm. At TX highway speeds, it was doing almost 4K, where my Bullitt is wafting along at 2.5K. Fuel mileage was absolutely dismal at those speeds; way worse than the Bullitt (EPA was super optimistic at 14/20). It sounded nice, but I was one of the lucky many with bad engine bearings, so sold the damn thing early on. Good riddance. Ha ha.

I used to see the BMW M3 as the car I strove to be able to afford one day. Now I wouldn't touch BMW quality with a 10ft pole.

Ive known to many BMW techs and back yard BMW mechanics (more than any other brand actually) that will just go on and on about how the quality, more so on the turbo cars, are trash. A story that sticks out was apparently shortly after the 335 came out my friends bother worked at a BMW dealer as a master mechanic (or wat ever BMW's term for such is) and he was CONSTANTLY replacing turbos. BMW was refusing to just do a recall on them and was instead just covering them all under warranty while they were covered and if they were not anymore, oh well sucks for the owner. He only stayed working there till his JDM engine swapped 2.5RS hill climb car was completed then he quit the job.

I will say this...they fly. Already 0-60 in 3.6 and the 1/4 in 11.66. This is with the non AWD, that one will be even quicker. To be honest the front grill is kind of growing on me. Thats not the issue for me. The car is even longer than the Mustang and even heavier now, which to me feels the Mustang almost like a land yacht in its size (not feel) coming out of an E92 M3 as well. I thought the E92 was a big car when I got it and now it looks svelte. I saw a G80 at S. Bay BMW in Los Angeles and I have to say the interior is magnificent!!

IND just dyno'd there non ZCP (comp package) rated at 473hp, the car put down 465rwhp!! This car will come with a manual. Unfortunately the ZCP cars 8spd. auto only.

G82 M4 RWD - non ZCP / 100% stock / pre break-in

BMW's Ratings - non ZCP
473hp @ 6250rpm // 406tq @ 2650-6130rpm

Our Best Run Pre Break-in - Dynojet 424:
IND G82 M4: 464.92hp at 6780rpm // 408.55tq at 4530rpm
IND G82 M4 Crank (assuming approximate 15% loss): 547hp // 480tq

The new G82 cars do seem to have some Mustang cues, as does the new 8 series.

I've watched a few review videos on the new M3 and M4. If we move past the grill (in my opinion an abomination, but also there's already aftermarket kits for this), I still think the Bullitt looks way better. Of course that's super subjective as I own one.
But I am not a huge fan of the new design language BMW is pushing forward. As far as the vehicle itself goes, seems like a great sports coupe, watch Throttle House, they had probably the best review IMO.

One thing I gotta mention - props for the for doing manual. Perhaps if I feel like I need 4 doors, wouldn't mind getting a used M3 (the newest gen) in next few years, and swapping out the grill. That green they have on the M3 looks really good. I NEVER thought I was gonna like green paints on cars, but one Bullitt later, here we are...

When i started to think about getting new car i was looking for Bmw4. It wasnt M4 but M440, so the strongest 4 before M version with 330 Hp. You cant really compare M4 with GT. Its a comparison between Shelby and M4 i believe.

Also dont want to talk about grill. Some will love it and others hate it. I wasnt fan until i saw it live and i was impressed. Looked actually fine.

Take in mind that i compare m440 version, not M4 that is better in every aspect.

Interior in bmw is on another level comparing to Mustang. Its hard to compare really. In Bmw you feel like sitting in a luxury car. Its hard to compare all the possible technology as well. Lets just sum it up with the fact that Bmw will park for you while in GT you cant even get front parking sensors here. And if i am not mistaken, in Mach1 you cant even have rear ones lol

My offer for M440 with all the discount has same price as Mach1 with much better lease offers direcly from bmw finance. GT will be about 10k Usd cheaper as i mentioned.

I also own Bmw X6. I like those cars BUT

That M440 felt like a great luxury coupe. Its also fast, specs got it 4.6 sec 0-100 with 330 HP so similar to Mach1. Fuel usage is also much better and you cant even compare options/interior as this is completely different league BUT

I dont think you can get that joy there. Its great, fast and luxury car, but when i sit in Mustang and hear that sound i just have a smile on my face every single time. This is going to be my fun car and with BMW even though its great choice i feel like it would be a waste of money for 2nd car, but with GT or Mach1 i think that this will be the best toy and pure fun every fucking single day and cant wait to get it.

looks better with that redesign however, sad to have to spend a ton to fix a grill on a new car.

The new M440i gets the 382hp engine and does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and runs 12.3 in the 1/4mile. The killer for me was no manual tranny offer. You have to get the M car to get it. Oh, I forgot the M440i is so ugly. Only on the M cars does the large grills somewhat work, I said somewhat. I saw the car in person and it looks a lot better in real life than in photos.

I've seen a black M3 and Green M4 both look terrible in person. The grill the mirrors, no clue what they were thinking.

Thats weird. I did small mistake as my version was 440d with that 4.6 s and 340hp, but i have others in front of me now. I guess its again Europe - US different world :) Here, 440i has 374 hp with 4.5 sec. M4 has 480 hp with 4.2s and M4 competition has 510 HP and 3.9 s 0-100.

Link for aftermarket grill kit?

To be honest I just saw the car live at South Bay BMW in Torrance, CA and to be frank it looks much better in person because of the details in the hood.
Yup "Prior Designs" was going to be my comment.

I was more thinking the M3 that Doug DeMuro had on his channel for a review. That was the green that I was interested in.

Also, keep in mind that theoretically, the hp ratings might be a bit different, both from unit perspective and from the particulate filter perspective, that usually reduces hp rating.
For example 2019 Bullitt is 480hp in the US, I think 457hp in Europe.
The "ps" vs "hp" plays a role, also.
