I don't think EV's are such a terrible thing. I personally don't see why people hate them so much. I for one don't think we need to phase out traditional gasoline and diesel powered vehicles, but at some point we are going to have to face the fact that they are coming.

Love it or hate it the new Tesla Model S at 70k does 0-60 in the low 3 second range, and will run a 10.90 - the Plaid is faster around Laguna Seca than virtually any production car (Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche) and does almost a 8 second 1/4 mile. It also has over 450 mile range. Costs 100k

I think the more people perfect the batteries, charging, and the logistics it will make for a very exciting performance industry. My biggest draw back is there is a very limited setup for fast charging as of right now. Tesla has the ability on properly equipped vehicles to "fast" charge a dead battery to 80% in 30 minutes.

Until we have fast charging stations abundantly like gas stations I believe the EV future is a long way off from phasing the gas vehicle out. Which I also feel will eventually happen.

Perception is reality, but what is fact and not perception is EV's have shown more performance potential far more in the past decade than most thought they could.

Agree - they are coming and I can not WAIT! Do I car if people have gasoline powered cars - hell no. Would I purchase a EV like the Tesla Plaid and be able to blow virtually any cars doors off on the street - and laugh to myself because their 900whp car just got mopped up by a sedan lol HELL YES I WOULD.

Hello; This is a link to a different thread on this same site. Slightly different title but much the same discussion. If any do not wish to read thru it, I may pick a few comments and quote tham into this thread.

There are a few posts which deals with the source of electric power with good data. This appears to be the unresolved issue with battery vehicles. I do not think many have any problem with others buying electric vehicles in a free choice sort of environment.
For me at least it is the methods of force and back handed tactics which are objectionable. I do not mind if others drive electric cars, I just do not wish to be pushed artificially into having to do so myself.
The game is being rigged against fossil fuels in an unfair manner.

All seriousness though I think 85K is expensive yes, and certainly not something to sneeze at. What I see coming is prices coming down, and value going up as time goes on.

You can get a low mileage P100D that will run mid 10's and get over 350 miles on one charge for 50K. I'd be very curious to see what used Plaid's go for - I'd buy one for 65K over a CTS V or Hellcat.

I'd buy an EV if it got 1000 miles per charge and took 5 minutes to recharge.

Soon as they take over, electricity prices will go through the roof. It is going to be ugly. Electric companies already complain the grid can't handle what we are doing now in some places.

I do worry about how clean they are at end of life. How much can we recycle? Do we save now and pay higher price later?

EV vehicles are powered by what? Hint it’s not unicorn farts. It’s electricity. Now what’s that made with? Nobody even talks about disposal of the batteries once they wear out? All Green energy does is move the pollution from tail pipes to power plant smoke stacks and land fills. Maybe while you’re thinking about how clean this renewable energy will actually be? You can hire an army of coders to build all the infrastructure that will be required for all the EV or hydrogen powered cars that will be mandated in the next 5 years.

Even if a natural gas power plant is charging them, far less energy is wasted. Industrial scale power generation is an order of magnitude more efficient than a combustion engine. And it's ignoring that the electric grid doesn't have the capacity for even 15% of the vehicles on the road to be switched to electric. American infrastructure is becoming a world class joke. All this political posturing and promises from companies will evaporate as reality sets in around the 2030 mark when everyone is fighting for batteries.

Climate change is going to be an issue sooner rather than later though, whether you believe its man made or not. Arctic ice is melting at an unheard of pace, and eventually it won't be able to replace itself. We're talking cities like Miami being completely inundated with water, or at least having their entire water supply poisoned by sea water without one of the most massive levy constructions in human history.

Plastic for your keyboards to code and since we have no plastic you can’t make IV bags or plastic tubing, no rubber hoses for cooling, no freon to cool your frig or the ac in your EV. This is just some examples of millions probably billions of things made from oil.

The democrats and environmentalists destroyed nuclear power. When was the last time you heard of a nuclear power plant being built or even proposed?

We are actually building 2 in Waynesboro GA (near Augusta) right now. One will be online this year and the other next year. They are an expansion to Plant Vogtle. They are grossly over budget and behind schedule but they will complete.
