Well thought I’d share my long pain in the ass journey to my dream garage here in nyc since my 2020 R is on the way for spring/ early summer - dealing with the city from a legal aspect is a real pain, but from friends who built their garages illegally and had to deal with the consequences due to having buildings come from “unanimous” complaints, (cough cough neighbors) I decided to just do everything the right way-
We moved into to our very nice 1st house in sept. Being the new people on the block the last thing I want to do is rattle up my neighbors even though they all seem awesome anyway moving on- So my pre existing garage is currently 10x20x12
And termites had its way with it to say the least- so being that my wife knows how OCD crazy I am with my cars/motorcycles and detailing equipment a fanatic to say the least, she broke my arm to spend the money and finally have my very own dream garage- I’m currently about 95% finished with the check list of things I had to do in order to get started as per my architect : (most of them so ridicules and by all means I don’t agree with but hey this is the “legal way” and beats pretty Hefty fines)
Boring test, property survey, asbestos test, and finally applying for all the permits-
Currently ......

Once we get the green light we will demo everything- add a nice slab with above requirements for a four post 9000lb rated bendpak lift- the dimensions will be 22’ deep 19’ wide 15’ in height -

Thankfully I have a little bit of a hook with my general contractor and will be able to save a lot of money with this project so I won’t be skimping on anything- we sat and talked about different construction features and I decided to go with cinderblock walls- I will be upgrading the electric panel, and so far I’m looking into dif. Products for 1. Lighting
2. Garage opener (also to accommodate clearance for the lift)
3. Cabinets
4. Flooring
5. AC/heat unit
I have a hose outside 10’ away from the garage so I’m on the fence about putting in a slop sink (with heated water) but I really don’t think it will be necessary- if I’m that dirty I can just go in the house, but your opinions or personal experiences will be appreciated things you wished you done or didn’t do etc. )
Here are some of the products I’ve been looking at after living on YouTube for the last 4 months.
( Lighting ) rem. Detailing is a hobby and while I don’t do it professionally I do want a proper set up as far as

Recently moved my GT350R and 2 other cars to one of my rental properties. Had the floor epoxy. Haven't had an chance to hang my wall decorations yet but will upload updated photo when I do. The coolest aspect of this garage is it has an 1/2 bathroom installed.

Ugh...one of two of my biggest regrets (besides the bathroom, I really wish I had built a nice office in the garage). You learn a lot building your first house. Almost impossible to think of everything.

So I apologize for the crappy photos and the glare on the poster frames...I just suck at photos and that’s that! But you get the idea....

it looks magnificent in person. I would have liked the tracks a little bigger, but the next size up (double these) I thought would be too big (and too expensive!)

go ahead and name those tracks!

And yes, that’s me on the Duc in the center.

man i really like what you did here. the uniform sized pictures with the tracks as trim between them is sick. enough to take up the walls without being overwhelming. i have clean walls but they are empty and need something on them but i wanna keep it classy like this and not have a million random things. i have been pouring over garage photos on the internet and this is one of the best ive seen.

Woo hoo! Got absolutely nothing done yet! And my car is showing shipped! Waiting on permits from the wonderful buildings dept! Should of took my chances doing this build illegally I would have been done 5 months ago - now there’s more requirements I need like a decon station... covid warning signs... mandatory mask sign... temperature readings on demand.... uhhh.... this is for a backyard Garage build and not a sky scraper right? Might as well have osha classes I have to take- anything to just take more money... my buddy says the Nyc buildings Dept has been absolutely crushing it when it comes to fines... thousands and thousands of dollars right in “deblas ZERO’s” pocket....

Finally got the box of tiles that where resent by RaceDeck. UPS still hasn’t located the missing box. The garage is finally finished. Next will be to have pictures taken of the Shelby and hang them up. It took 6 years to get it done. My garage makes me happy. What’s in it makes me even happier!
