I like the hood and the air extraction vents on the GT model. That would have been a nice addition to the Ecoboost model where the turbo could actually use the venting to keep the underhood temps down. What I think would be cool though would be to use the GT hood on the Ecoboost and leave the vent over the turbo side of the engine as it is. On the other side make the vents face forward and it could be a ram air/cold air inlet for the intake. Its location on the hood falls in just about the right spot to feed into a ducted cover for the air filter instead of the standard closed housing. Might be able to get a couple extra ponies out of the Ecobeast. That could be a nice adder to the Ecoboost Performance Package. What ya think?

Would EB make lot more noise with the vents.
Direct injection clatter is not very pleasant sound.

I think DI cars should get more padding underneath the hood.

The 3 series N-54 is pretty noisy to me especially with its stop/start system, even the new Honda Fit with DI sounds noisy.

I would rather see a different scoop design that faced forward on both sides of the hood in the same position as the GT's Heat Extractors. The one on the Drivers Side could feed a Ram Air like Setup for the Air Box and the other could feed Cool Air Directly to the Turbo to Keep it Cooler.

would blowing air over the turbo really do much to cool down the air coming out of it? I'm guessing not, as I don't think I've ever seen such a setup on a turbo car.

I doubt it would really affect the performance but it wouldnt hurt and would help reduce Under Hood Temps.

Personally, I would rather have something like this for the Ecoboost

To bad in todays world this would never become a factory option.

^ Comes standard if you buy a wrx or sti. While that looks light years cleaner than the subaru's, still a little too boy racer looking for me.

I'm talking about it being off centered. For some reason I find that really cool.

I do find symmetry is sometimes over rated. :)

That was Great on the SVO Mustang and the 87-88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe because the Intercooler sat right under the Scoops. Do we even know if the Eco-Boost has an intercooler?

I agree with you there!

I'm pretty sure it has an intercooler but it's not on top like the SVO or Thunderbird. I don't think it's a big one either.

The asymmetrical scoop was pretty cool on that mustang. My thinking though was that it could be an easier adder using the GT hood so one less cost to incur. Then change the extractor vent to a ram air intake. Seems like something that Ford make work fairly easily.

All EcoBoost engines have an intercooler.

The shutter system closes to help with fuel efficiency, and should not have anything to do with the turbo itself per se.

Speaking out of my ass:

If the ecoboost had heat extractors, air already entering the engine compartment would have a place to escape. Air entering from the radiator/front air dams and underneath the car would be able to pass through the engine compartment and aid in cooling. I think the trick would be in extractor placement to make it as effective as possible.

Sticking scoops to add more air in without giving it a place to escape wouldn't be efficient and cause more drag. The air would end up going somewhere, probably down and under the car.
