Backup camera resolution is terrible. I may be installing a larger screen in my base model. Maybe even the 10.2" Android Seicane stereo.

Is there a specific rear camera upgrade for the base model 2018 GT that fits in the factory spot to replace the OEM camera?

It's your screen, not the camera.

I'm not so sure about that. When everyone upgrades the radio to the larger HD screen, the resolution is really low, because for the small 4" screen you don't need an HD camera.

Are you sure the cameras are different?
I've replaced several cameras in different cars and most of the time it's the screen or the processing of the image. I just figured they use the same camera in all the mustangs trims.

The one in my 2015 is very good. Better than what we had on our 8.4 uConnect systems.

A couple of months ago I swapped the camera in a 2017 Nissan maxima with a 2016 Camaro camera.
The Maxima had the worse backup camera image I've ever seen.

The image quality in the Nissan was terrible.
The Camaro camera is crystal clear.
The result was a slightly warmer image but the quality was just as bad as before.
Have done several in GMs, Nissan and a couple of Dodges and the results were always the same.
quality did not change.

I believe that most of the issues stem from the module that is doing the processing of the image.
Not sure in the Mustang where that happens, but I figure it might be different in the ones with the little screen compared to the ones with the larger one.
I would think that the image output is being told one resolution and when the screen change is done that resolution is then being spread out on the new screen.

I doubt that there is an "HD Camera" specific to the premium displays.
Just different programming on what to display.

I'm new to Ford so I really have no clue to the modules that are involved, but I'm learning.

I have been mainly a chevy guy and the camera data is processed in the HMI.
Not sure what its called in the Mustang, but I would bet if that was changed to the same one in the cars that have the larger screen, if they are even different to begin with, then the image quality would be better.
