Perceptions of Middle-age Men in Mustangs

With so many Mustangs on the road why would any one think they were that special. A Shelby or Boss maybe but all the rest. Sure they are nice cars and I like my quite a bit. Never noticed anyone pay much attention. Especially women.

I bought my GT because I liked it. I had a '17 and it just didn't sound as much like a mustang as I would have liked. so I traded it for a 18. Much better sound. I liked the color/stripe on my 17 better but the 18 is OK. I needed a second car because my other car was a summer only, good weather car only and I needed something to drive when my other car was in storage for the winter.

I bought the GT because I liked it, A LOT and because it is a special car because I was around when these things were Pinto based sticker performance cars, they were not special during that time so I realize how far the car has come. I get it that some people see this car everywhere so they're like meh, whatever, cool buy one don't care move on, but, to many thousands of others, this car is special and the aftermarket that sells parts to its owners believes so as well.

But you do understand that is exactly why the car has that old man image right ? Theres not many people actually care about retro styling with big gas burning engines anymore, the people they do are almost always old men, you even see it when it comes to reviews the people that like them are usually always lamenting about the "good ole days!".
Considering almost all of us here would get smoked by a Tesla in insane mode with minor mods (tyres, weight reduction) that looks like an Uber...can you really honestly tell kids that its something special if they have no idea about it ? On the surface of it, the Mustang IS actually heavily influenced by an older demographic, especially the V8 cars.

I mean, I knew before I got the car I would get the mid life crisis old man wisecracks. I dont think this should be a surprise to anybody. Also I have to say, that people say the same thing about Porsches, that they are mid life crisis mobiles, for old balding men trying to get attention from girls half their age. Though the one difference is that Porsches line of cars is not so heavily focused on reliving experiences from the 60s, the new 911s are going to be hybrids FFS.

If Ford put out that 2021 would be the last year for the V8 I can guarantee the same response would occur that stopped Ford from turning the Mustang into the Probe back in the 90's. Also, far more young people buy the V8 than buy the Ecoboost so that older demographic you think is valid is only valid in that older guys love V8's but sales prove so do the young ones.

Actually, the aftermarket people aren't necessarily in love with the mustang, they are in love with the income it brings them. I'm sure some love the car though because it's hard not to, but it's a job.
Social media and the brand recognition it brings is a key component of retail in 2019 and that's what brings us here folks.
Everyone gets paid but us. Well, at least we get discounts.

I can agree as a younger guy. Anyone my age who wants a mustang wants the GT sound and power but settle for ecoboost if not financially possible.

What surprises me is the amount of gentlemen over the age of 65 who own a mustang AND are on the m6g forums. Everyone says older people are bad at computers but here they are

We didn't all shed our youthful enthusiasm for cars, and perhaps one of the reasons for our presence on forums such as this one is because a lot of our contemporaries did.

Depends on your definition of “computers”. Charles Babbage, a pioneer of modern computing, was around 30 when he made the difference engine. The lead designer of the c programing language, one of the most important and popular languages to date, was dennie Richie who was also around 30 when c was invented. Also just because a select few have done great things in computing, doesn’t mean everyone else can use computers to. While “old people can’t use computers” stereotype is a huge generalization, I’m sure of the fact that it is still the case for majority of the older population. They didn’t grow up with affordable computers and therefore usually tend to have to learn it later which is much more difficult than at a younger age.

While “old people can’t use computers” stereotype is a huge generalization, I’m sure of the fact that it is still the case for majority of the older population. They didn’t grow up with affordable computers and therefore usually tend to have to learn it later which is much more difficult than at a younger age.

It's not like using forum software to post text requires high-level computer skill, and for much of anything beyond that there's a moderator/admin team who would have those skills to fix it for us.

I think it might be more of a 'willingness' thing than anything involving actual ability.

Ritchie is old as well. Being born around the middle of WWll makes him old!!!

Yes, you are correct to say they were among the few that did GREAT things in computing, but they are OLD. Most people now are just users and do things with computing. There are still a select few that do GREAT things. Although I am fairly confident in saying more people are doing better things with computers....but mostly because of the developers rather than their own ideas.

But stereotypes are just that. Lots of older people think the younger generations cant use a tape deck or a turntable or a rotary phone. Its just generation gaps. I am in my 50's and I have been in the communications industry for 30+ years. I see lots older than me that are "computer minded" and I see lots of people younger than me that cant give you a hand written note because they were never taught how to write....all you need is a keyboard, right?

I know I want off a bit, but I think you get my point....

There is no malice intended by my comments, just a point of view.... CHEERS!!!!

Thanks to the fact that 50 year olds in 1970 didn't look like 50 year olds in 2018, it proves one of two things. A- we're a bit better preserved these days, or B- I'm delusional.

I’m saying that the two individuals were young when they accomplished what they did and saying “old people made computers” is deceptive since when they did it they were young. Yes many young people can’t use rotary phones and tape decks but if given the chance they can pick it up easily as compared to old people learning new things. It’s a scientific fact that learning is exponentially harder the older you are. Teaching my father to use a computer just for browsing took a lengthy amount of time and he still gets confused sometimes while browsing. On the other hand, It was much easier for me to learn how to use a computer much faster.

Regardless that should be enough on that topic.
