After reading this, it got me thinking. We all know the DCT and Automatics are faster and put up better numbers. Better numbers sell more cars. What if...Ford is still planning on a manual transmission for the GT500 but they wanted to release it with the DCT first, get all the numbers out there in the magazines, reviews, and articles so it gets stuck in people's minds. THEN...in a year...release the manual transmission option. Yeah, it will be slower. DEFINITELY more fun. But all the magazine/internet racers will have the original numbers ingrained in their heads so everyone's happy. Ford has the faster numbers published and known. And the enthusiasts get their fun/manual driving pleasure. No loss in sales. No loss in bench racing contests.

Right now, the new GT500 will only come with a dual-clutch transmission.

But, the head engineer of Ford Performance won't rule out the possibility of a manual in the future. :like:

Nope, just SMH at the die hards as I lapped them in local, regional, and national races. If going slow with obsolete tech is your idea of fun, there are plenty of vintage events to enter.

I have old tech also and yeah, sliding and shifting is fun. Just not fast.

I am going to go out on a limb here. I am guessing that most of the people on this forum are in their 40s and up. We are probably the last generation that appreciate manual transmissions and many of us learned to drive on a manual as I did. Going back to the muscle car era and up through the early 2000‘s, if you took two identical cars, one with an automatic transmission (or DCT) and one with a manual transmission, the manual transmission would always bring more money. 30 years from now who knows. Millennial’s don’t give a damn about driving, and none of them know how to shift a car. There will be a point where the manual transmission will no longer bring the money that they used to.

Yea, manual transmissions will probably be a thing of the past sometime in the near future, but I hope not.

The automatic transmission has been around since before 1940. An argument could be made that having humans behind the wheel has zero place in any modern day performance discussion! You're willing to give up control of the transmission, control of the throttle (performance traction control), and control of the brakes (ABS) to computers. I'm sure computer controlled steering can or will be more precise and less prone to errors as well. Eventually we might as well stop practicing to become better drivers and simply continue to become better computer programmers because that's where this is all headed. If performance is the ultimate goal and not the experience and/or joy of man controlling a machine, humans will take a backseat to computers.

I love the assumption that I dont know how to drive a stick. Yes, I mastered the heel-toe in the 80s. And was around for the ABS track debate then as well. I guess if you've never had to break a lap into sectors chasing 10ths for the podium you wont understand.

Just like I dont understand paying $100k for a car specifically built to withstand the rigors of the road race track course and handicapping it with the slow option.
