Perceptions of Middle-age Men in Mustangs

In countries that sell RHD Mustangs, the 5.0L car is positioned against things like the BMW M2/M3, the Mercedes C43AMG and the Audi S4/S5.
All of which are turbo charged and faster than the pre-facelift 5.0L (we dont get facelift here yet, or the Shelby GT350). In fact my Polestar Volvo S60 is faster than the pre facelift GT and its significantly cheaper. So knowing this, its easy to see why people here don't view the GT as a good buy. Literally the only reason to buy it is because you want a V8 sound, and that ends up being mostly older guys, since that era is not something the youngsters know much about.

Sounds like pricing of the Mustang is artificially high. In the U.S., BMW, Audi, and Mercedes are upscale brands compared to Ford. Models with those nameplates faster than a 435 hp Mustang GT? You'll pay more. When you factor in the very high repair cost of the Euro brands after they're out of warranty, the cost difference widens.

I’m 68, well-past “mid-life” and quite frankly deep into “old-life”. A few years ago several factors came into focus...my passion for the Mustang never waned since that day in April, 1964. Also my family is gone, rarely take friends out so a backseat and four doors are useless. Never carry more than a weeks-worth of groceries in the trunk. Always had a sunroof but on a nice day it never seemed to let in enough of the fresh air and sunshine. So one Sunday morning in February almost two years ago I woke up and realized it was time to jump-start my passion for driving AND the Mustang. Sure, I’m aware when I’m cruising top-down that some may be thinking, “look at that old delusional fool” but when life is short, good health is a gift and dreams slip away, a little delusion is essential and I don’t give a gall-dang what others may think!

I'm 62 and don't care much what other people think - but usual response I get is either "thumbs up" or "I wanna race you". My wife likes it quite a lot!

my :"fun/sporty" car has always been something like a hyundai accent 5spd. I had tons of fun with that kind of car, all for 10k new. but as i get older, i am like, you know, why the hell not get a big v8 that reminds me of my younger days when i was a passenger in my parents old dodge coronet or monaco. :-)

and i got an automatic/10spd because to me, the new stang has more than enough power to tunr an auto and it harkens back to the early 1970's muscle cars. how many early 1970s muscle cars were stick? not too many.. they were sold as family sedans....

For me, it doesn't matter what I'm driving or riding.
I have two Harleys and I just picked up a Redline Sky.
I have to make the effort to stay away from females; why I don't know. I do
not encourage them, yet I'm constantly approached by; 'I'd like a ride or can I go
with you in that car or even my truck or bike?'

I wasn't bothered by the girls but once in a while when I had the '15 Camaro SS.

The Mustang is considered good value in the UK, even at circa £42k ($53k) for a standard GT. It is still a rare sight to see one (apart from my own, probably only see one every two weeks) so that helps keep demand strong. BMW, Audi and Merc are not really considered premium brands anymore (unlike Porsche, Bentley, Aston Martin etc) as there are so many of the standard models on the road (even taxis use them). Plus they depreciate like a stone (faster than a Mustang) so second hand ones are cheap as chips.
As for perception of Mustang drivers it depends what country you're in and maybe the age of the driver for some people. My perception of a Mustang driver in the US might be different to one in the UK.

I love my GT premium more than my Turbo S. Don't notice the fractional speed difference, but I love the sound.

I'm 47 and have always had at least one Mustang. My wife calls it my juvenile car and hates how loud it is (and mine is very loud). But, a few years back I was thinking about getting a Z06 vet there was a great deal on a low mile used one in my area I told the wife. She said "that's like me telling you that I want a bird. Have I ever said anything ever about wanting a bird? No I haven't. Why would you want a Corvette? All you have are Mustangs." I said "but this is a special Corvette." She asked what color. I replied, "unfortunately it's yellow. But, yellow looks good on the vet". She rolled her eyes. "Seriously, you're wanting to buy a yellow Corvette?". Needless to say I didn't buy the vet but bought another Mustang instead.

I’m a Mustang guy but when they were testing a biopsy they thought might be cancerous, well then screw the Mustang and I picked out a new Z06 Corvette in black. I would buy it immediately and drive it like a mad man until the chemotherapy or surgery relegated me to being put in it like a baby or just looking at it in the garage.

No cancer, so back to the V6 Mustang. You only live once but if cash is tight you may want to go cheap as that extra money every month adds up and can go other places. As long as you are healthy.
