First post so hi to everyone on here
My wife and I went looking at the 17's in they are moving before the 18 comes along.
We are looking at the GT fastback auto, sounds good with 5 years warranty, 3 years servicing and $2000 accessories thrown in.

A couple of things I noticed, they were all built between May and August 17 so they are one year old already.
I don't know if that's normal for a import from the states
I have a 2016 Falcon and the build quality is pretty decent with consistent gaps but I noticed all the Mustangs had some sort of body gap issues which worried me.
Found a red one which was almost ok but still not what I was expecting.
Have they sorted out the a/c issues and the oil cooler issues on these build dates or is it ongoing, the dealer said they have had no issues with Mustangs
Anyway if I can put my mind at rest I might pull the pin on one, have always been a Mustang fan used to have a 1973 Mach 1 351c, 4 speed years ago
Thanks in advance

Panel gaps are a problem, all Mustangs have the issue to some extent, try and get your dealer to get it fixed before delivery?

As for AC issues, I doubt it, but Ive heard of it less lately.

Oil cooler is fixed on later builds AFAIK, well according to Ford.

2018's will be out end of the month, but obviously for FAR more money, but they have some nice upgrades, thats a decision for you to make though.

I've got an FG as well. Six speed auto, and I enjoy the full manual mode with the shifter on the floor.

The auto Mustang is all paddles, which I hate. If you're like me and you use your auto in manual mode (100% of the time, in my case), then consider whether paddles are your thing.

My wife has a Merc (also all paddles), and the thing that sh1ts me the most in that thing is accelerating from stop whilst turning (ie: at a T intersection). I can't easily select 2nd because the wheel is upside down or sideways and the paddles are somewhere southwest or northnortheast....who the hell knows.

Anyway, none of this is going to affect me in my new Mustang because I'm buying a (manual only) Bullitt.

Happy shopping...they're real cheap and with the five year warranty she'll be apples :).

I didnt know that, seems strange to have it that way
no more manuals for me, knees rooted
I dont know what fg you have but do you reckon the handling is similar (when pushed)

I've got an XR50 sedan.

I have no idea what the handling is like compared to a Mustang, I've never even sat in one :). My old Falcon was an EF XR8 that I had for fifteen years. I bought the XR50 without sitting in one of those either...it's a Ford, it'll be good. I bought it and it's been perfect for the last seven years, never had a single thing fail.

Touch wood, my Mustang will be the same.

I didn't bother to test drive the FGX either, had enough Falcons to know what I was getting
dealer said they had no Mustang demos, makes it a bit hard to know what to expect. Last Mustang I drove was a hire car in the states with a v6, was a shitbox compared to a Falcon

Exactly what I thought when I bought the FG. Also on runout, real cheap. Rang around, got a price and colour, went in and signed on the line. The new sales guy was gobsmacked....never had an easier sale.

Re: Mustang, lol, same here. Last Mustang I drove was a 2013 vert I picked up in Washington DC. Bad mistake, was over 100 degrees every day and I only had the roof down for fifteen minutes in the four days I had it!

I did 6 hours in 105-115f (40+c) last summer, the 2017 you get here has the premium package, driving fast + seat coolers + sunscreen (you get burnt super fast in Australia) and you're golden.

That same day I was told it hurts to be in the back seat doing over 100k's (60mph)...

I like your wheels though, the 2018's forged wheels look a bit similar too. Here in Australia we got 3 options, Ecoboost got one set of wheels, and GT got black or silver of the same wheels, thats it. 2018 there's a forged wheel option now.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

If you go looking in here you will see a few threads that talk about the delivery (at delivery) experience and there are also a couple of good ones that talk about their mustang one year on.

Bottom line - its a great car and a leap forward over (sadly) the last Falcons. Yes there are build issues (there were with mine) but the dealership fixed those issues via their own workshop or panelbeater. Mine is a Feb 2017 build. and after 8K travelled the experience I wouldn't swap it for anything in the price bracket. For the price you are quoting for this car its a bargain.

But have a read of the delivery checklist thread and you will see some of the things that others have picked up. A dealer will address these. But be upfront and inspect the car prior to the handover day. Be polite and insist and if the dealer is a good one they are as interested in working with you as you are in driving the car away.

But don't be surprised if you find that after scanning this forum and other places besides - you are more informed than they are....

And just enjoy the heck out of the car - I do :)

Build dates and on forecourt dates can be up to 6 months.

Mine is a Jan 17 build, landed in Sydney mid May 2016.

When we bought my wife's Escape we bought in June 17, the build date was Dec 16. (Titanium with Safety Pack)

Not uncommon for vehicles which are not rolling off standard off the production line to have expanded dates.

But yes, many dealers requested additional cars thinking they would continue to shift units based on early sales figures.

Initial sales of the Mustang were estimated at 2,500 a year by Ford AU.. they got that massively wrong. And initially Ford US were only allocating cars to Australia based on actual customer orders.

When dealers eventually were allowed to order cars without actual customer orders, some went a bit mad .... And now we have a slight oversupply with many people wanting Mustangs specifically ordering the refreshed model.

I drove a 2018 GT Auto convertible in the US for a day in April and all I can say is the 10 Speed auto is fantastic. In sport mode it is very responsive and fun.

If you are looking at an auto and can wait a bit then the 2018 is the way to go. I’ve got a manual GT here so can’t comment on how the 2017 6 speed auto drives. If it’s a price thing then the 2017 is a no brainer.

I don’t think either the oil cooler or AC Evaporator issue was solved in the 2015-2017 but warranty covers it, especially if you go to the right dealer.
