I did a quick search and I couldn't find anything on this. Sometimes, when I first start the car, the first shift out of first is very rough. I am creeping through a parking lot and a lot of times, I won't even have my foot on the gas. The transmission almost acts like it is rev matching and then it will lurch me into 2nd. It seems to be doing this more on colder days (I live in the south, so cold is relative), say around 35º.

It is a 2018 GT with the 10 speed auto.

Based on your description I assume you are not manual/paddle shifting. If you are then this is sort of normal when the car is cold.

Automatic shifting? Not normal from my experience except to some degree when cold and in S especially and more noticeable in drive modes other than normal. Note that I park in a garage and have the luxury of not having to go out when it is below 40.

Note that a combination of left foot braking and a small amount of throttle can cause strange symptoms.

Edit to add: By performance pack 1 do you mean the factory installed PP1?

What kinda of lunch? Soup? Salad? Sandwich?
:p

Seriously, though, is this only occurring shortly after starting the car and not when it’s warmed up?

2019 is my project year for getting a house with a garage. I am jealous.
This is just normal driving. I am in Normal mode and am not paddle shifting. Also not left footing the break. Just a little pressure on the gas pedal to get her rolling. After this first hard shift, everything seems to be normal.

Usually a nice lobster bisque and some oyster crackers. :D

This typically doesn't happen if I warm the car up. It did it to me this morning, but I probably only had it running for 3 minutes before I hopped in and drove off.

mine does this. 2018 GT/10spd

It is only when its been sitting overnight and its cold out. If I am idling down my driveway, 2 miles of gravel, it happens under 10mph. The tranny acts like it has a hard time shifting into 2nd. As it tried to shift out of 1st gear it will rev up to 2,500 and slam into 2nd gear jolting the car forward and breaking the rear tires loose.

Ah, well I am glad to know I am not the only one. I reckon this is normal then. It is annoying, but I guess this little quirk is worth having for such a great transmission

It sounds like it has to do solely with the transmission, or possibly the transmission fluid, being cold. Time to use that remote start!

Absolutely. Been using it on very cold days, but not moderately cold days

I think Ford has some refining to do with the A10 calibration/programming. Mine is reluctant to downshift at times, and the 4th to 5th shift is often jerky/bouncy at slow speeds. Overall it feels like a work in progress.

I would not disagree, but the shifting is stellar while driving spirited

Mine does the same on cold mornings. I live outside D.C so it can get cold here 25-30F mornings. I have had my GT do what you describe and happens when its cold out and the car has been sitting overnight.

When the A10 in my GT shifts from 3-5, it does feel hesitant as if trying to lock the converter but cant decide lol. It happens to me when the car is cold but after a couple of miles of driving when the transmission gets up to operating temp this hesitation goes away or becomes minimal enough not to notice in my opinion.

Cars are like people. Waking up on a cold morning is not easy. ;)

True - Sport+ is even better, much more willing to downshift and revs high. But a bit much for daily driving as it hangs in high rpms a bit too long and is reluctant to shift into 10th. I wish Normal mode was somewhere between current Normal mode and Sport+.

nothing a trans tune wont fix, once some of theses companies start to tune these they will be even better.
