My GT is a year old now and I had the oil changed at 5 months 2000 miles (the oil light had not come on I just wanted the oil changing) now 6 months later and another 2500 miles the oil light has just come on ahead of its first service next month. I wonder if we’re getting what is known as “oil dilution” where some unburnt petrol gets into the engine crank case? I know that a lot of Euro 6 Diesel engines are suffering oil dilution and requiring early oil changes.

I got my S550 brand new in June 2017, and come Oct 2017 after 6000 miles, the oil life warning came on...it had been slowly creeping down as I kept an eye on it.
Ford said to just reset it, but I thought 6000 miles was a fair interval to change the oil anyway, so have done so.
It definitely made a difference in engine smoothness and was much quieter afterwards...if the oil life indicator moans and you've done more than 5000 since the last change, just change it. If not, then just reset it.
Also, as previously mentioned, if you intend on keeping the car for many years to come, paying £140 to drop the oil and filter is almost inconsequential when considering the amount the cars cost to buy and fuel :)

FWIW my warning came on just shy of 5k miles. Think Ford Guildford did a reset AND a full oil/filter change free of charge, I didn't even ask them to change the oil, so it was a nice touch!

Shame they let me down in other areas though :tsk:

Resurrecting an old thread....I’ve done 13.5k miles in the 5.0, had last service 10k miles in September, it’s now saying oil change needed and life is at 1%?! It’s been used regularly over winter always on journeys over 10miles, driven steadily etc so no idea why it thinks an oil change is needed?? Reset indicator or visit the dealer?
Hi Lee - there was a post a while ago that suggested there was a software upgrade to fix this problem - https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95608&highlight=oil+life+software

Don't forget that there is a monthly meet at Howden 10:00 to 13:00, every second Saturday, at the Waterwheel Tea Rooms.

Cheers, Peter

Thanks Peter, spotted the waterwheel meet in the MOCGB magazine- will definitely be paying a visit at some point:cheers:

FWIW, I have an oil catch can fitted so ‘oil dilution’ should be minimal.

Yes, seems to be all those heavy footed GT owners that have the problem mine came on a couple of weeks before its second service.
