Hello Everyone!

I have a 2016 mustang GT that is about to drive me insane.

If I am in 4-6th and down between 1K-2K RPM the damn thing SOMETIMES starts to lug and feel like it is missing horribly, it shakes the car forward and backwards.

This is especially bad at 1500 and 1750 RPM

I can't for the life of me figure it out and once it is above 2K the thing runs like a champ!

I do have a lightweight flywheel and dual clutch but this was an issue before then but not as severe.

Anyone have any ideas?

Why would you be in that low RPMs anyways? In 6th I’m below 2k sometimes just cruising on the highway. But if i am gonna be below 2k in any gear i downshift. If in 6th and below 2 k i will normally downshift too unless it’s only for a few seconds. I have a 2016 too. Taken it to the dealer?

I haven't, since I have mods I would prefer not to fight with them and then get charged for something simple.

In my car at least in 6th gear at 60-70 is right in this sweet spot of pain for 6th. I try not to ride her at higher revs if I don't need to.

It’s a coyote it’s meant to rev. Why not rev the car.

Because I like money and reving costs money and increases wear? I dont mind getting on it but sitting at 3K in 5th while driving down the highway at 60 because if I shift to 6th it fucks itself isn't what I call a quality experience...

You should be in 6th gear when maintaining about 50mph or higher. How much throttle input are you giving when the issue occurs?

car always had the issue but got worse with a new clutch ? why did you change the clutch ? no issues in 3rd gear at 1500-1750 ?

I have 3.31s and I try to avoid using 6th gear unless I'm going over 70 MPH, and even then I'll try my best not to accelerate too much without downshifting. I don't recall experiencing the shaking that you describe though, that's odd.

I have always been a notorious "short shifter", too used to diesel engines...and I don't experience that. The ECU and electronic throttle does a pretty good job at keeping you out of lugging most of the time (except in obvious situations, of course).

Is this happening right after shifting or not? It certainly should not be happening in fourth...I would definitely find someone with a similar spec'ed stang locally and swap cars for a brief cruise.

Before storing the GT for the winter, for the 2 weeks I got to drive it, I noticed the car stutters/feels down on power right after shifting into 3rd. I drive through my neighborhood at 7am, and am courteous, so the response of "this engine likes to rev, why would you shift so low" is invalid. It seems to go away when warm.

mustang1 I had a failed throwout bearing, transmission wouldn't shift, put in a mantic clutch which was a huge mistake.

It feels like if you tried to shift to 4th at 10 mph and accelerate just like it is lugging like crazy. I think that the flywheel made it worse by taking away rotating mass on the engine.

I don't notice it much in lower gears because i think they have more torque and I am normally at 2-4K when accelerating. 4th CAN do it but rarely.

Lightweight flywheel is useless on the street. Need to rev significantly more to maintain rotation of the drivetrain. I got to drive a GT with a lightweight flywheel, it sucked on the street. I suppose it would have been nice on a road course.

what happens if you put cruise control at 60 mph and 6th gear. Lugs and shakes continuously, or just once ?
