Get what makes the most financial sense. If you can exit the lease early with no penalty, go for it. Or just chill and wait it out. Really up to you if it was me I’d probably wait as you’re not stepping into some radical new design.

Sometime Ford will add auto engine stop-start to the Mustang. It might be in the '19. So you could be waiting to shoot yourself in the foot.

Ahaha I was going to post the same joke! I’m not sold on the auto start/stop tech, I know it’s claimed to not put extra wear on the engine since it’s warm... but... I dunno. :p

BTW (unrelated to the two quotes above) - I’m enjoying the posts from people who only read the title and not the thread. :D
My lease ends September, I’m getting a 2018 or a 2019 unless I want to be without a car. Has nothing to do with “perpetual waiting” :p

Hi, guys, new to the forum. Every car I've owned since getting my license has been a Mustang, 1990 LX Convertible, 2001 GT Convertible, 2013 GT Premium Fastback, 2016 GT Premium Fastback. Anyway, I'm currently leasing that aforementioned 2016 GT, but before you gawk, I got a ridiculous deal on the lease that has made other Ford dealerships go "... how did you get it for that monthly payment?" (also leased the 2013 GT which I got a similarly ridiculous deal). My lease is up in September of 2019, meaning the soonest I could get out on an "early bird" would be April-ish, however, the dealership I've been talking to and was at yesterday ordered a 2018 GT Premium for me with everything I want, nothing down, as they said I get first dibs and if I don't want it when it comes in that they'll keep it and sell it to the next guy, stating that they'd get me out of the lease "extra early" if I do want it.

Now, here's the thing... That car should be here in late-January or early-February, but I saw the 2019 orders are coming early, like, March early. I REALLY doubt there's going to be anything different minus that Bullitt... I did hear that Ford may be offering more rim options for the performance pack and possibly "allowing" the alcantara seats with the 401a package (digital gauge cluster). I mean, honestly, though, the only thing the 2018 GT is missing that I REALLY wish it had is a full-on HUD and maybe a surround camera (I know, I know, but it's my daily driver :p ). I can't imagine that Ford is going to add either of those things to the 2019 since the 2020 is supposedly a full-on redesign. So, basically, I guess I'm asking - what features do you guys think are going to be added/changed/whatever for 2019 GTs?

Last thing, and sorry for making this long, but I was planning on just buying this one... but that 2020 MY redesign has me curious and I'm debating on leasing again (but only if I get another ridiculous deal... apparently this dealership hates the dealership I normally lease from and the salesman basically said "whatever they offer you, we WILL beat it" :D . And, when I say "hate", like they won't even trade with each other  ) - what do you guys think on that front? Does anyone know what the lease-rate (percentage) and the leasing fee are for the 2018s? Knowing those going-in has always allowed me to talk them down to that crazy-low lease payment by "guessing" the residual and going from there :p

Thanks!
Wait for the 2019.

So your lease ends in September. The 2019s will be out, so you will know what has or has not changed. It is likely that any 2018s sitting around will be discounted to some degree over the 2019. I would just wait and see. Ask this again in Aug.

So, this is what I’m currently thinking:
The aforementioned dealership should have “my” fully-loaded race red 2018 GT in at the end of February after looking at a calendar and assuming ~10 weeks for it to come in. By that time, I’m sure we’ll have some 2019 “leaks” out there. If there’s nothing really changing outside of some color and/or rim options, I’ll be driving that 2018 home - likewise, if nothing leaks for 2019 by the time it comes in, I may chance it and drive the 18 home as long as the dealership does indeed get me out of my current lease those two extra months early at no penalty to me. :)

BTW - side note, originally I was obsessed with getting the alcantara seats and was disappointed that Ford locked them to the carbon fiber pack which is incompatible with the 401a package... but, it sounds like that the alcantara fades pretty quickly and should be avoided unless I’m monotonous with its care, any truth to this? Better off with leather even if the 2019s offer the alcantara with the 401a?

Thanks! The situation is also that a dealership I was at on Wednesday ordered a 2018 speced out specifically for me, nothing down (said I get first dibs but am not obligated to take it). Said when it arrives in 10-ish weeks they’d get me out of my current lease extra early if I want the car. This is where my current conundrum comes in (originally, I was more-or-less planning for 2019 MY or a left-over from 2018 as per your advice)! :D

As soon as the 2019s come out, that 2018 will be a year old for the depreciation hit, even if you have only had it for a couple months. I would say get the 2019. Have the dealership that ordered you the 2018 do the same thing in March when the 2019 order banks open up....

This is always the case though... wait until 2020 because your 2019 will be worth less!

Just buy the car when it makes sense for you... there is not going to be much if any difference between '18 and '19, so buy the '18 and enjoy it!

If the article that Twin Turbo posted is true about canceling the S650 platform, the 2020 Mustang still might be on the S550 platform.

I would wait at this point. The 19's order bank opens in spring for a summer delivery.
