Most people on this forum seem to have a GT. I wonder if anyone here is content with the EB version?

Thanks - mine will also be a DD including long distance drives. The MY18 EB might be attractive as it will be below 40k, less tax, lower insurance and better MPG.

Do you find the performance ok?

More than happy with ours

hit a bit of a wall at 410hp with the power upgrades but just waiting on some goodies to arrive in the post in the coming days that should fix that once a new tune is applied

lots of fun to be had playing with the EcoBoost , many of the basics are the same as the V8 its only the engine that requires a different approach and of course the sound is not the same !

cheers

Jason :D

I had an Ecoboost Premium Coupe as a rental in Hawaii for two weeks, and I loved it. It didn't have the same feeling of surging power that my GT has, but spooling the turbo up was great, and you could actually hear it, unlike my wife's turbo'd Mercedes. I drove it quite a bit on the North Shore of Oahu, where there are some twisty (albeit slow) roads, and I thought it was a great bit of kit.

Would I trade my GT for one? No.

I'm happy with mine, I've got an extensive list of mods (Below i'll go into detail).

I'll be unbias here, and not everyone's going to like what I have to say, but it's based at least on my 'feels' towards it.

I've driven multiple V8's. To be exact 4. And i've not really enjoyed either as much as my EB, however, the sound of them is insane and can't be replicated. I've got the sound in my EB up to a point that I like and can deal with, it's loud, it's got a decent burble, but it's not a v8, and that's for sure, but, I like where mine sounds, for what it 'is'

The EB after living with a V8 for a few days, is a better daily driver. It's lighter, noticeably, and has what feels like more "push" due to being forced induction it also "feels" faster. Those words, Push and feel, are subjective, it isn't faster. The v8 needs to sit over 4400 RPM to feel fast. The V8 feels heavy on the roads and having driven both, you can really tell it's heavier on the front end.

Both cars are a nightmare as any RWD car is, to live with if driven incorrectly. The tyres are by far the worst things ever, they don't grip, and they'll punish you if you decide to get cocky. Michelin Pilot super sports or Michelin Pilot Sport 4S will be the best solution to this issue.

From stock, the EB sounds rubbish, but arguably (and this may be because I've been spoilt by meets with modded V8s) it's nothing special either in the sound department. Regardless of which you chose, you'll "need" an exhaust on it. Whatever you decide is your choice, always will be and always remember that the car is yours and nobody else's :).

Onto mine:

I've obviously had the mods listed below installed, however only some of these are the power adders/enablers.
Those are:
ETS Intercooler (The stock one is rubbish, do 3 dyno runs and you'll see how bad heat soak hits these cars, the stock IC is tiny, and quite frankly, pretty damn useless).
Cobb 3" high flow catted downpipe (MODDED to fit rhd - this as it comes, DOESN'T fit a RHD car)
Airraid Modular Intake Tube (MIT), a wider intake tube, more air into the turbo!
Turbosmart (TUNE+) wastegate actuator
Magnaflow Competition Catback
K&N panel filter
velossa tech big mouth ram air intake
Denso ITV22 iridium 1 step colder (pre gapped to .028) from tune+ (stock plugs had a variance of 0.2 between highest and lowest gapped plugs, causing irregular firing patterns and in other cases misfires.
and the thing to set all of these alight, TUNE+ tuned.

Other bits and bobs that were performance related
Rotiform R122 SPF alloys 19x10 square setup. Lighter alloys, obviously less rotational mass wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres - 275/40/19 on all 4 corners for the extra grip
Pedders XA xtreme coilovers
Steeda IRS bushing and insert kit
and at a stretch, US spec heat extractor vents (you know, less heat and all that in the engine bay)

I've been dyno'd to make c360 BHP (engine) and c400lb ft of torque. Now, that's without a baseline figure on a dyno (maha 2) but that dyno lists the V8 to make its list (410), that also said, the stock Eb has NEVER made list figure (310uk 317us) on ANY DYNO, so in terms of mods 'adding' power I'm not sure what it's done, but a friend will be running the same dyno I used on a stock (just exhaust) EB, and we'll see what power it makes, and then i can pass a comment on that.

Any questions about the car etc, shoot them over. I've now got 13.5k on mine. I've also got a few little mods to go on, but really she's pretty finished.

edit, fleeting point, would I have one if my insurance would have allowed me to have a V8? probably not. Would I have had second thoughts having driven both, definitely. I test drove the EB in the US before buying (second batch in the UK), and to quote my parents who were with me "there was no way you weren't getting that car after driving it" I landed back from Florida a few days later, and immediately had my deposit down (it would have taken something pretty monumental for me to say no to it!)

No problems / complaints here. DD here also and in snow no less. I kinda sometimes maybe think I should of got a GT but when most ... street encounters... end in me winning - it's good enough I think. Plus the GT might be a little more dangerous in the snow.

The only thing that kinda pisses me off is sometimes some parts aren't available for the ecoboost where their available for the GT and even worse, sometimes parts are available for ecoboost coupe and not the convertible (f'ing exhausts...) - And there have been articles about custom ones but WHY NO SUPER CHARGER FOR ECOBOOST?!?!?!?!?

Other then minor gripes here and there - highly recommend, would buy again.

Where did you draw this conclusion from? It is the same car plus a few horse, I can't see one being more dangerous than the other. I daily a GT and have no problems in snow.

I've got the ecoboost and i'm happy with it. It's a daily driver and i'm getting an average of 29mpg over 6 months off ownership (4400 miles). The last few tanks have returned just over 30mpg in normal driving mode. The only disappointing thing is the exhaust note. It lacks volume and aggression but I thought the V8 was the same when I drove it.

I had one of the first EB for 3 years, which I bought in November 2014.

I enjoyed it, even liked it a lot. It is true, the "feel of power" in the GT is not a night and day difference around town shifting stop light to stop light at lower RPMs; This is true even with my Power Pack 2. However, the power delivery is more effortless, especially getting on the freeway, passing etc. I started a build thread where I will eventually leave a more detailed analysis. But, the V8 never feels like it's straining, even at high RPMs. Get on the throttle and you'll know without a doubt it has more power.

And yes, it feels heavier but not that much heavier. The biggest difference is my EB was a PP, but my GT isn't. So, the EB felt more planted; The GT in stock form feels more floaty. I'll rectify that soon on the GT.

The GT gets significantly lower mileage from a tank of gas. In my daily driving a little over 16. Same driving style, same daily routes, my EB was ~22. That was good for an extra 90 miles on a tank of gas. Insurance was a wash for me. The GT was $5-$6 more a month is all.

I switched because I missed the power delivery of the V8. I've always loved Grabber Blue and I got a great deal. The EB was and is a great car, and I never had any issues except some minor dash rattles (no doubt from disassembling my dash to fix the AC), non-cooling seats, and an AC compressor issues at 25 miles on the ODO right off the lot when new; In other words, all the "standard" issues one may encounter on this generation regardless of trim.

Edit: I know this is in the UK section. Hopefully when you wake up tomorrow you won't mind my input.

just cause of more power - even with snow tires, i feel the car loosing grip here and there and i'm not pushing it. i've considered restoring the car to the stock programming just to shed some hp for the winter.

You only have as much power as your right foot commands, learn how to modulate the throttle better or make use of snow/wet mode if your a bit lead footed.

Or as you Americans are so fond of saying, DRIVER MOD. ;)
