Let me rephrase, Corvette uses a transaxle that does not mount to the motor.
That shouldn’t matter. They install a tube between the trans and engine. They already install tremec TR-6070 7 speed manual. I bet it would fit in the corvette no problem. The rumor I’ve heard though is it’s going in the ME vette.

I would bet that's more likely. Who knows though, it could end up in the Zora and the GT500 :headbang:

Just read a bunch of the earlier replies and I think a lot of people are overcomplicating this. If ford just takes a gt350, designs a new front fascia, hood, wider rear fenders and rear fascia, slap on FI, throws wider wheels on the back, tunes suspension for drag... voila gt500. Way less investment than a new NA 7L and it will probably perform and sound better.

Fords already said the FPC 5.2 is GT350 only, so not likely they will do that.

Yes, they did, but it would be a crying shame if they left that sound/performance on the table just because of a few words spoken a few years ago. Heck, make it a 5.0 FPC with different cams, longtubes and FI if that make the collectors happy.

Oh, I'm not arguing that I'd also love to see it. I just don't think they will. I see it as more of an R&D engine to them. I assume they will take what they learned and apply it to either a revised 5.0 or 5.2, or take both the lessons from the FPC and new 5.0 and apply them to a new larger engine.

I can dream and say a 5.8 FPC with DI and boost.

Even if it was simply a 5.0 fpc with FI, Ford could get 800hp out of it easy and save the R&D cost.

The GT350's motor has not long enough a history to become the engine in Fords top dog flagship. The 2018 5.0 is 75% new, is a 4th generation 5.0 since 2011, and is nearly a 5.1L with BOSS internals. Whereas the 2011-17 5.0 was a 4.96L. Ford is basing the replacement of the GT500 on the Cobrajet TT 5.0, bumped to between 5.2 or a 5.4L and using the tried and true Eaton TVS SC bumped upto 2.9L. 745-775 hp. And it'll have a new, first ever automatic transmission, currently in the soon to come out, and shared with, new ZR1.

ZR1? Lol. That’s a transaxle, how will that fit In the Gt500?

I like to disassemble things.
I don't think he meant the exact same unit. The Corvette offers a TR6070 7-speed manual transmission which has its roots in the TR6060 which was offered in the last generation GT500 as well as certain current Camaro models.

The TR3160 isn't going to cut it behind a torque monster. That leaves the TR6060 or TR6070. Both heavier than the TR3160. I don't see the GT500 as needing a 7-speed manual unless they are trying hard to up fuel economy numbers and as such emasculate 6th and 7th into ridiculous overdrives.

Hopefully there are two good transmission choices to choose from.

He was specifically quoting the automatic transaxle in the corvette. Doesn’t work.

And it’s an 8 sp.

The 7+liter motor that is slated for trucks just might be based off of the 6.7L Scorpion.
By doing this, Ford can consolidate three engine lines into one.
All Ford needs to do is change the heads and add spark plugs.
I just don't see this in a Stang.

The 6.7 is compacted graphite block with 6 head bolts per cylinder..

That would be way over built for an N/A 7.0 gas engine and it's probably not really designed to take the RPM. I doubt much if any of that engine is shared. Those 6.7s are designed to be used in F650/F750 trucks with GVWRs of 50k lbs.

If I had to guess, it's probably more based on the old 6.2 with more stroke, redesigned heads and DI/Port injection.

I don't see it making it into a mustang either way though.
