Flowmaster American Thunder Axle Back

looking for opinions on Flowmaster AT axle back setup.

I have been searching sound clips everywhere. I think this setup is what I want. I am looking for a little louder than stock, deeper tone, no rasp. no drone.

I think this would work. What ya'll think?

I also have an H pipe sitting on my garage bench if I want a little more volume.

I've got flowmaster super10s, bikers Mufflers only with an x pipe and it drones terrible.

I've got a borla axle back sitting in my garage waiting on install as i can't take the drone anymore

That's never a bad idea to start with just an axle back and then add the resonator delete later if you want more volume had me up with any questions we have the flow masters in stock

Everything I have read and heard from clips, customers/owners with Flowmaster AT axle backs have ZERO drone. My want is a little deeeper and a little louder. I have no interest in waking the neighbours or being heard for miles away. The stock sound is OK. But it's not loud enough and a little more baritone would help.

I was thinking Borla as well. But that setup brings up the volume a little more than I want, I think.:doh: Video clips really don't give you a great comparison so all ya can do is read, read and read more. :headbonk:

I have noticed, listening to clips, I am hearing a low hum. Maybe time to rethink. :shrug:

I've got super 10s which I believe are most loud and drone of flowmaster but the 44s aren't far behind. Even according to flowmasters website. Even they say interior drone.

It's your money

They sound bad ass to me except in the 1800-2000 constant rpm. I.E. 6th gear at about 65mph

Thanx for this. If there's any drone, it will drive me effing nuts.

I think FR Borla will be a better choice. I am in no hurry as my car will soon hibernate for the winter. But I am collecting my mods for next spring now.

Have you considered installing the H-Pipe and keeping the stock mufflers?

I test drove a used 2015 GT with Flowmasters. It sounded great at idle, definitely had that old-school rumble. But *any* amount of throttle input reminded me it was not stock exhaust. Above 50% throttle, and forget about having a conversation. At highway speeds, it droned like a MF. Obviously if you get a custom exhaust, you want to hear it. But the Flowmasters were obnoxious. It sounded like the exhaust tips were in the trunk or back seat. It was fun for about 10 minutes, then I quickly turned around and headed back to the dealership.

If you want to be guaranteed no drone, go with Corsa. They don't sound like Flowmasters, but they won't give you a headache either. I have Corsa Sport catback, and at cruising speed they just slightly louder than stock (that changes when you punch the throttle).

Borla is another option. Most forum members who have Borlas seem to be very pleased and have no drone. But some have reported drone with Borlas, so be aware of that. I'd say your chances of drone with Borla is very low, but not guaranteed.

I have not heard Solo exhaust in person, but many forum members say Solo has no drone.

Whatever exhaust you choose, I *highly* recommend hearing it in person before buying, if possible. When I had a Challenger, I bought an exhaust after only hearing it on Youtube videos, and I will never do that again.

They sound awesome, but yes, they are a bit drone-y. I would recommend Corsa or Borla if you want to avoid drone. Corsa sports are pretty damn loud and do not drone. Extremes do not drone with stock cats, too.
Let us know if we could get you setup with whatever ones you aim for!

Yes I have. I may do this too. I just winterized my car so I have a few months to think about it. I have listened to sound clips of just the H with stock mufflers. I like the sound, but not totally convinced. :shrug:

Stock mufflers don't produce that great of a tone when you push more volume through them. They're pretty tinny sounding. I did that first and wouldn't recommend. It's certainly better than extra quiet stock, but if you're going to do it, do it well.
