Cold air intake seal

I happened to notice a red tinge on the seal, where it makes contact with the hood. Looks like the seal is starting to wear away the paint; you can see on the hood where the seal makes contact. For now, I just waxed the area, until I add a buffer material. Just something to keep an eye out for.

Very good heads up. Thanks. Upon first thought a rib strip of mylar type tape would prevent any paint abrasion. Also curious is the fluttering hoods many of us are seeing at freeway and above speeds may contribute to this.

McMaster Carr sells 3M electrical tape in varying colors, good to 220F, which should be OK. I might give that a try.

I only noticed this yesterday - it was after a few drives on the highway, which is unusual for me. You may have something with respect to the highway hood flutter causing the paint wear.

That may be a good choice. I've used 3m packing tape similarly in the past with good results. I'm sure there are several good choices that people will know of as we delve deeper into this. Actually Helicopter tape is likely one of the very best tapes for abrasio resistance.

I took a strip of spare clear bra material that I happened to have lying around and added it to the circumference of the area under the hood where the airbox touches. Seems to be working okay.

...but the stock intake pulls cold air straight from the front open area above the bumper, what cooler air could you ever get ?:shrug:

I notice many of you talking about the hood fluttering at higher speeds. I have never noticed any hood vibration , but the first mod I did was adding redline hood struts witch may be dampening the effect of the hood flutter. Try a set of them . Redline, or ford performance. Added benefit is the hood goes up about 4 inches more than with the rod , and you can remove the rod if you want. Good luck

At one point, I considered the same thing. But, if you compare the air inlet temp to the ambient temp, I usually see only an 8F or 10F rise in the inlet temp. To me, that's pretty good.

Precisely! Mine runs exactly the same. This is something I've watched closely. Of course in town driving is higher but at hwy. speeds (or more, ) IAT is always 8-10F above ambient.

I had some spare automotive vinyl in a color that is really close to magnetic and used it to protect the hood. It was easy to find the right place since the intake seal left a very slight mark as OP mentioned on the ack of the hood. Not the prettiest thing but it works like a charm.

Maybe a piece of PPF would be good in this area such as Expel.

After 20000 miles , the paint on mine is completely rubbed off in that area. Id say that it may be a warranty repaint/hood adjustment situation under there. The ppf sounds like a good solution once its touched up.
