Hi, so I have this issue which I can see a few others have had but can't seem to find a solution: my air con blows cold out the passenger side and hot from the driver side.

I've taken it into Evans Halshaw Ford (where I bought it) and they say it needs a regas.

I have two problems with this:

1). It works fine out one side which says to me gas pressure isn't the problem

2). They want £280 for it as it's not covered outside 12 months warranty and they don't have the right equipment(!)

Even assuming it does just need a regas this could surely only be down to a leak in a year old car so it's just punting the problem down the road.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Not sure I can help with any expert view on the air-con problem (surely a warranty issue?), but my experience of Evans Halshaw is not good.

I've never had another Ford product so obviously I can only comment on my Mustang experience. I went to my local Evans Halshaw (Wolverhampton) more than once for various problems and warranty issues (so they had a fair crack of the whip to get it right) and every time I came away regretting it. It seemed to me that;
a) they had absolutely no clue about anything to do with the Mustang (sales or service departments)
b) worse still, it seemed like they just couldn't be bothered and constantly tried to push you off to another dealer
In short a complete disgrace. I had to go to 3 other dealers before I found one where they actually seemed to give a s:censored:it. So look on the bright side ..... you've only got another 3 dealers to try before you find a good one! :D

Yeah, I saw that, didn't seem conclusive itself... I'm going to have to argue to get some kind of guarantee that if the problem recurs they'll refund this regas or something.

I certainly wouldn't be paying for a regas myself on a car that is still under warranty, especially when there are known problems with the aircon on on these cars.

I see from your avatar that you are in MCR, Gibbo has been singing the praises of the Ford dealer in Congleton, it's not too far, maybe worth a trip?

Re gas will sort it for a while.I would guess its another evaporator core leak like i think my car has.
My car is going in the end of the month, its doing what it wants atm.Blowing warmer my side on AC
They should cover it on warranty, Ford know this problem but the dealer would rather re gas than dismantle the dash
Sick of the bloody thing!

There's a place near me that will re-gas AC for 40 all-in so just to prove the point it might be worth finding a similar place near you. Definitely wouldn't be paying the dealer £280 for it even if the warranty doesn't cover it, but i would be keeping them up to speed on what i was doing.

Find a mobile guy who will extract the existing and refill with tracer dye to find the leak then regas. Should be less than half what Ford want, and you'll find the problem. Gas doesn't disappear without a way out.

12 month warranty? Surely it's 3 years?

If part of it is blowing cold, it's not a lack of gas......it sounds very much like the evaporator core which, as noted above, impacted a number of early US build cars. It's a dash out job :(

First of all EH are mugging you off. FInd another dealer IMO.

Secondly, these cars take a 'different' sort of gas, so not everywhere can re-fill/dispose. Non Ford Store dealerships might not have the right equipment.

It WILL be an evap core failure, but you have to go through the motions. First step is a regas and wait for it to go pop again. Im currently in the waiting stage, having had it regassed 10 days ago.

First step on mine was check for leaks, then refill.
Second, check for leaks again after 2 weeks.
3rd, check for leaks after 4 or 5 weeks.
4th, leak found in a small valve during 3rd step and part is ordered. (in back-order FYI, so this could possibly take a very looooong time)

See pic for the valves, if the valve is leaking they need to order the full line/pipe as the valve alone is not available.

Good to hear they didn't rip the dash apart, I thought you were at that stage already!

Make sure they check these two valves before going the evap core route, they need to add a bit of soapy solution in the valves, if it bubbles even just a tiny little bit... then you found the leak. If it's the evap core they should be able to spot the fluo liquid in the drain liquid under the car after a drive. (at-least that's what Ive been told and saw them do with a UV light.)

Good Luck!
