Android or iOS?

I want to gauge what platform we use so that I can get an idea if I should develop my application for Android as well as iOS.

My application is called CalculatE85, it's a very straightforward E85 calculator that will save everything you input and only takes a couple of taps next time you use it. Should be a big help for those of us who mix fuels It's currently available for iOS devices, but I want to get some idea of the user base before I dive into Android as well.

Why cause a flame war when you can just do both? In 2017 it's safe to say you'll find plenty of users on either platform to make it worthwhile.

Most apps worth a grain of salt is always on iOS first. Then you have to make it for those Android people in that fragmented world of Nougat, Jellybean, and whatever other sweets are out in the wild.

It appears that you have already started exploring that idea.

Android development Ive heard is worse then Iphone. I tried it(android) for a while and I didnt find it intuitive at all, I need to get back to it though. Fragmentation isnt that big of an issue for what you are doing just code for the oldest version of android that supports the features you want.

I might have bumped into the version target issue with iOS. Currently, customers would need iOS v10 or higher. At least Android studio tells you the percentage of users will be able to run your app. I'll need to look up some stats on what versions iOS users are running.

I've been really impressed with Apple's development experience. The only part I didn't like is that they have so many different versions of Swift that every time you search stack overflow, there's basically 3 or so different answers to how to do something! :headbonk:

I'm thinking that not only this, but people who tinker with their cars might be more likely to use Android?

Regardless, Lemers is right. This is a map of the US percentages. Android is still ahead and has been ahead for awhile. Granted, Android is comprised of several phones, not just one model a year. Diversity caters to the masses.
