Hi All. I just joined this forum because I am contemplating purchasing a 2018 GT to replace my current 2011 GT with 152,000 miles and I'm looking for information and advice.

My A/C has gone out 5 times with this car. It's crazy. The compressor has bit the dust so many times it's ridiculous. And even when it's working well, if it's really hot outside, it doesn't get the car particularly cold (Kona Blue with black interior doesn't help.) I'm not trying to spout off a bunch of crap - I'm just speaking from experience

I'm going to make another post about oil consumption because this Coyote of mine consumes oil like crazy - more than my 700+hp forged LSX454 in my Vette.

But oil consumption and A/C problems are concerns I have about purchasing a 2018 GT, which will be my new DD.

Thanks for the feedback. This seems like a cool Mustang forum.

I had an '11 GT premium with the brembo package, traded it last August on the S550. A/C on it worked flawlessly, not any hiccups at all with it. In fact the car was never back to the dealer for anything as I do my own service. So far the new car has been the same.

Ive been seeing a concerning amount of threads come up lately about problems with various AC components. I can deal with a compressor taking a dump but most guys are reporting stuff that requires ripping the whole dash out of the car. Its always difficult to gauge how serious a problem is by reading about it on the internet because nobody comes on here and says "just cheking in, my AC works great" but there does seem to be a trend lately. Personally Ive had 16 Ford cars in the last 20 years and Ive only ever had one AC system go out...the compressor clutch in my '94 Ranger. But you may want to do some due diligence researching the validity of these reports.

The AC went out in my '15 GT at just over 10k miles. Fixed under warranty but still a pain.

Evaporator went out on my 2016 somewhere between 12k and 13k miles, covered under warranty. They told me at the time they had done dozens of them and that there was a new corrected part. I'd think the 2018 would get it.

That and the leaking battery are the only problems I've had with the car so far.

He's correct, I read an older post which stated that Ford implemented the new revised evaporator core (which does require the dashboard to be removed) in the 17 models and repairs so you should be safe if you get the 18. Late 16 models might have it but I am not sure.

Errr no more AC?
what i was trying to get at is are there any symptoms that lead up to the core going bad other than total failure of the ac?

right now i have an intermittent burning smell when i first turn the fan on. i brought it in once to the dealer already and they said they cannot smell anything. ac still works but the weather in my area hasn't been very warm.

No A/C issues here, you are going to get a bias sample as most of the people who are going to respond have had issues with the a/c and the 99.99% of the rest will not respond.

what are the telltale signs of a bad evap core?
If the core is leaking you will see condensation on the windshield when the windshield vents are not on.. mine was fogging up big time, the AC was working fine tho so I just chalked it up to high humidity here at night.. (it's damn near 100% humidity and 90 degrees year round)

But yeah, eventually you'll notice the drivers side AC vents blowing warmer than the passenger side then it will stop blowing cold completely.
