I like the rearrangment of the front end features. Everything is more functional; a design evolution.

My only doubt is that the sharper features (edges, angles, and corners) in the front are inconsistent with the more flowing lines everywhere else on the car.

Not saying I dislike it, just observing the slight disconnect.

Just because I was having trouble seeing the exact differences (grill size, etc.) made a couple of GIF images. Very hard to find stock images the same angles, so it is off a bit, but should give you the idea.

But then when looking at the old design after so much exposure to the new one, the 15-17 really does look stale and 'tame' in comparison, regardless off minor details. The smaller grill is much flatter (as is the whole front) and the foglight/turn signal area is kind of a mess that doesn't do much to help the look.

I'm sorry but no, I absolutely love the original S550 front end design far more than the new. Everything else though, I'm really liking. If I was in the market I'd definitely pick up the 18 and then just switch out the front end to an aftermarket solution. I don't think I'll make a move until the next iteration in '20/'21.

I do find it humorous that guys say "It looks the same, you can barely tell the difference" then a few posts later "The 15-17 looks stale and old" :shrug:

Well, I never said they look the same. The difference is obvious. But yes, to me, the 1st gen S550 is going to look antiquated by the time these are driving around. I'm starting to notice now when I see them on the road that the fronts are very square and tall, almost as if they stick up while driving forward. There is just more to the front end now. They played it safe on the 1st gens with the very basic formula of 2 headlights, matching upper and lower grilles, and 2 obvious foglight areas. They took some risks on this new one by getting away from that conventional style, but it does make the front end more strking.

And trust me, if you don't like this you will probably hate the next gen. This is the warm-up.
