Gt350 Wheel hop Help

Two part question guys.

Due to the differences in suspension, how does the wheel hop issue on the Gt350 compare to the GT 5.0?

Looking at the after market parts that help to reduce wheel hop is a bit confusing, seems like endless number of parts help to reduce it bit by bit. Can someone with experience point to the top 3 solutions(improvements) with regards to wheel hop.

P.S I have not experience wheel hop yet in my gt350, but I haven't laughed it hard either.

It is there, not as bad but it still exists. Tires are probably the biggest help but the most costly of course.

Otherwise for hard suspension parts, rear vertical links, cradle supporting mods, and lockout kits.

This subject has been touched on before, try searching some threads. I remember one of the BMR guys posting his suggestions for wheel hop cures somewhere.

I just had some rear bushings/bearings installed. The difference is unbelievable. It really stiffens the chassis and plants the rear end. I didn't think it would be possible to make such a difference. But I will also say this level of the stiffness is not for everyone, and many would say there is an increase in the Harshness component of NVH. I did not experience an increase in noise or vibration. You pretty much feel all pavement imperfections, which I don't mind.

To address wheel hop I would focus on subframe bushings and UCA/LCA bushings and bearings. I went with Full Tilt Boogie Racing and asked the same question....what do I really need to stabilize the rear? I can say that focusing on these areas will cure it. My goal was not to address wheel hop, but to enhance handling and rear end stability on track. I drive hard, and when pushed the rear would feel a little twitchy, particularly under threshold braking and tracking out under heavy load. Once I get the car out for a full shakedown on track I will report back with more specifics on the differences in performance.

Thanks for the info, I asked the question because it seems that every suspension part out there comes with the claim to reduce wheel hop, so hoping to narrow it down. Will look into your suggestions, Thanks again.

I installed the Steeda parts to make the rear much more planted. Never really had wheel-hop, but wanted a more solid feel.
You will be surprised at all the rubber/mounted in rubber in the rear IRS. Using the lock-out bushings for the subframe and diff, etc. didn't change the NVH characteristics at all. Wasn't the easiest install, but not too difficult. Some videos FYI:






Note: Unless Steeda has updated their kit, the rear lower aluminum "collar" won't fit the GT350. The rubber bushing has a different shape and the collar is simply too small to fit over the bushing.

I came from a GT that had bad wheel hop and was very nervous about wheel hop from the GT350. I did some practice launches last weekend in my R trying to dial in the launch RPM and was pleasantly surprised that I have no wheel hop. My only mod is adjustable toe links and outer monoball bushings upgrade on the toe links.

Also. 3,300 RPM on RE71R seems to yield the best launches :-) Traction on the 1-2 shift is sketchy at best.

Guys at the local 1/8th said I had bad wheel hop in my R. Though it might have had to do with the extra stick provided at the track or I may have been launching harder.

Traction on the 1-2 shift can definitely get hairy haha interesting to note that if you look at non-r 350 videos, the car regularly spins the tires at the bottom of the rpm range, and again as it hits peak power in 1st and into 2nd. Whereas with the R and the stickier tires you don't get any wheel spin at all at the top of 1st and just spins going into 2nd if you're shifting fast.

I might have been a little confusing the way I wrote that; I get bad wheel spin/wheel hop if I try to launch too hard from a stop. I meant that just normally taking off from a stop and then flooring it in first, I see no wheel spin at all whereas the non-r gets wheelspin at the top of first gear before shifting.

I found the same when not launching hard enough, that it would bog hard. Need to work on learning to slip the clutch this year. Road and track mentioned that best launch came with a 5500 rpm launch control, while letting the clutch out a little slower than a full drop, slipping it slightly.
