HOW TO: Add MyFord Touch/Sync 3 to base model S550

If I can get the connectors I wouldn't charge labor just Parts and shipping. I'm trying to find who is supplying Ford. If anyone wants to send some up close pics I'll look deeper into it. My car is in Cincinnati so I can't just walk out and look

Sorry the thread jack and sorry if this information is elsewhere, but if I can get my hands on a Sync 3 unit from a parted car, what would I need to pull out of the parted car and what would I need to buy/do (harness, programming) to get that unit to work? If you could link me to some place where that's discussed I would greatly, greatly appreciate it.

Depends, do you want SAT or SAT/HD? NAV? Do you care if your Bezel has heated seat switches?

I actually don't care much about whether it has NAV or HD radio built in. I do everything from my phone as it is. And I don't need switches for heated seats either.

Seeing as Sync 3 is supposed to do Android Auto now, my phone's navigation is supposed to just go onto the screen.

You need to also get the USB remote ports with the harness back to the sync (APIM) unit.

The Bezel is in!!

Some notes:

Not overly thrilled with the surface quality. Looks like they printed it in a odd orientation. Will require a bit more surface finishing then I had originally intended. Other then that though it checks out dimensionally!

Any chance of you making these available via Shapeways? I really want a 1 piece design with utilizing the stock HVAC controls and buttons. Would the price be in the $250 range?.

You'll want a bezel without heated seats, which is hard to find in salvage facilities. I've been searching for a month. I tried to get info on the actual part number but cant get confirmation.

So say I have access to a salvaged car, what besides the bezel, screen, control unit would I need to pull from that car if possible and what would I need to buy you think?

Depending on what they want for it just grab everything; ACM, Touchscreen/APIM, bezel, antenna.

So it sounds like OEMRadio is out of commission...

If I want to DIY a base to Sync 3 swap, I need to:

• Swap a bunch of pins on the APIM connector as shown in post 2.
• Swap some pins for the camera over to the APIM connector as shown in post 2.
• Source a premium bezel, and Sync 3 APIM/Screen.
• Re-write the as-built in the ACM and APIM with that of a premium car otherwise configured like mine.

Am I missing anything? Will the bezel just hook right in without mods?

You forgot "Save a bunch of money"

Search Car-Part.com for the bezel. It will be listed under heater control, radio or TV screen.
For the touchscreen/APIM and ACM (if you want SAT or NAV) contact The Parts Farm on Facebook.
The pin swapping isn't hard but you need to be year specific for what you have now into what your installing; ie 2016 Touchscreen/APIM into 2017 base car. There a few differences
