I'm looking at buying an S550 GT coupe as a second car. My primary goal, naturally, is to smoke the tires and grin like a 16 year old, but I also like my "tech" and would like android auto. I think some or all the "Sync 3" cars can be equipped with Android Auto but not sure? Also, assuming that is the case, can I shop for a 2015 with Sync 3?

Thanks guys, hoping to join the club soon!

Welcome to the forum :)

Ford were supposed to be releasing a Sync 3 update by the end of the year to enable Apple Car Play and Android Auto.......however, that hasn't happened, yet......

There is an "unofficial" release though, and it's explained by our forum member Bullitt and is explained on his YouTube channel (well worth subscribing for great car reviews and news :) )

Be aware that the '18MY refreshed Mustang should be revealed at the Detroit show on 9th January, so you might want to see that before ordering a new Mustang.

If you were to buy today:

2015 cars come with My Ford Touch. Sync 3 is NOT available.
2016 cars come with Sync 3, but the current official version does not have Android Auto/Apple Carplay compatibility. However, the files have been released unofficially and you are able to update a 2016 car to have Sync 3 immediately.
2017 cars come with Sync 3 AND the ability to use AA/Carplay from the factory.

I have also read that some late 2016 cars have come with the updated Sync version the 2017 cars have, so if you want to test a car bring your phone with you.

In case you want to get a 2016 without the update I have made a tutorial on how to do it, but it really is very simple:

Just to add to what everyone is saying the only way to get Sync 3 on a 2015 is to do a retrofit which OEMRadio (user on ths forum) has helped a ton of us with. The 2015 would also require a new USB hub (For Apple Car Play only though; Android Auto works without it) as well as some wire taps for the hub connection. A 2016 with Sync 3 simply requires the new USB for CarPlay (not Android Auto) and the update which is available on here.
