Searched like crazy. Sorry if it's here and I missed it.

Wondering if anyone can confirm whether Motul 5W50 meets Ford standard for the GT350.

According to the supplement, any Motorcraft substitute should meet "Ford specification WSS-M2C931-B".

Per the attachment, Motul meets "API SM / CF", but no mention of WSS-M2C931-B.

Don't want to assume, because even if viscosity holds up, detergents and other additives may make it non-compatible.

I'm able to get Motul 5/50 at less than $9/Liter.

Not dirt cheap, but a little less than Motorcraft with shipping.

I highly, highly doubt it. Even in the USA we only have 3 options.

It might be worth checking the BITOG forum. Those guys know everything!

WSS-M2C931-B is very close to API SN. The biggest difference is the phosphorus level, because Ford calls for the same low phosphorus level as the 5w-20 and 5w-30 oils that meet Ford specs. API SM and SN specifications don't have an upper limit on phosphorus levels in 5w-50 oils, so most 5w-50 oils are made with too much phosphorus to meet Ford specs.

Phosphorus damages catalytic convertors, so if you're running catch cans and you don't have measurable oil consumption between changes, a higher phosphorus oil probably won't be a problem.

What are the other two?
I believe Lucas came out with an oil that meets the spec but the other escapes me ... maybe Redline?

Amsoil for the win. Oil analysis's have been great.
I've yet to see a UOA for the new Ford 5W-50 standard. Any chance you could point us towards one?

Unfortunately, Lucas and Amsoil can be as challenging to get over here as Motorcraft (i.e., expensive/difficult to ship). Motul is highly rated, but as JAJ pointed out, may or may not meet specs. Been searching for a spec sheet on MC 5-50 like the the Motul attachment, but no luck. Took the advice to post on BITOG; will see what comes of it. Also planning to contact Motul directly to see what they say. Appreciate all the advice.

Running catch cans and didn't have a problem burning oil previously, but noticed something weird recently. Checked the oil after it had been sitting in the garage for about three weeks, and it was down several quarts. Less than a thousand miles since the last oil change, and definitely had the full 10 quarts and a good reading afterwards. Checked the filter, drain plug and belly pan in general--nothing. Some oil around the valve covers, but hard to tell if it's from the last change or actually leaking. Checked cans with last oil change; less than a cup in them. Planning to refill and watch VERY closely...

You need to keep looking for the problem because it is not normal if you are truly down "several quarts" of oil in less than 1000 miles. It has to be a leak or abnormal oil consumption condition that is not just going to go away on its own. Is there an oil film on your exhaust tips? Have you pulled the spark plugs to look for oil fouling? Also would do a compression and leak down test. Hope you are able to solve this quickly.

In the USA, a dealer oil change on a the Focus RS would use the same Motorcraft 5W-50 as we use. Do Ford Europe dealers use something else on the RS models there?

Don't know off the top of my head, but I'll find out within the next week. Working to find the right dealer for the GT350 and will be able to ask that as well. Good chance it will end up at the Cologne HQ.

Lucky enough to get most parts and supplies at US price with no sales tax on either end as long as the particular item can be shipped through the postal system...and or the vendor is willing to do so. A few do free shipping, which is huge.

Concur. Did basic troubleshooting and found nothing. Want to wait until oil on order arrives before I go any further. Hoping for best but preparing for the worst. Winter down period is helping with patience. Looking to coordinate with a dealer so that everything can get addressed at once, i.e., recall, driver side window sounding like it's 1/2 way down; 2nd gear rattle...

Could you tell me where to find a published Amsoil 5w50 UOA, please? It came out two years ago and I've searched a number of times and never seen one.

On the "two oils" - I found one quote from an Amsoil dealer that said it's got about 770 ppm phosphorus, which supports the claim that it meets the Ford spec. Lucas' spec sheet shows that their 5w50 has 760 ppm phosphorus, so it meets that part of the 931-C spec as well.

There are more differences between SN and 931-C than just phosphorus. Ford requires 931-C oils to be significantly better than regular SN formulations with respect to high temperature deposit and sludge formation. That said, API SN can be met by inexpensive conventional oils, so I'd be shocked if any premium synthetic oil with the right level of phosphorus that's "recommended for 931-B/931-C" use didn't meet the rest of the 931-C spec requirements as well.
