Do I need to gut the PCV to use UPR dual catch can? Is the Single UPR catch can sufficient? I just ordered it from LMR

I have mishimoto catch can and in the morning my garage smells like gasoline and i opened the hood and the smell is coming from the catch can.

There is oil/fuel in the catch can so that smell is normal, I don't know how its filling up your garage though. Single valve=minimal protection, dual valve = good protection, dual valve+gutted PCV = max protection

You don't need to gut the PCV to install anything. Although it is recommended if you have the means.

Since the engine spends about 90% of its running time off boost a dual valve can only gives you an advantage 10% of the time when the engine is on boost. Also since it doesn't replace the factory line between the valve cover and the intake in front of the turbo there is still that path for oily fumes to enter the engine under boost.

A dual valve will certainly be better than a single valve can but only by a small amount.

Why not furnish a complete UPR dual valve kit with a gutted part that replaces the factory PCV?

Because I don't have the smoke issue and I had the TSB done on my car so I don't see a need to gut the pcv

do you guys experiance any oil smell with the upr catch cans?
I have the UPR single catch can and the only time there is any smell is if I open it and stick my nose near it.

The dual valve is not just for smoke issues. Its designed to grab oil from the PCV line and oil that gets back into the intake tube. We have seen build up by the throttle body.

So the dual catch can is better protection? And does leak any odor?
Yes the dual valve is better protection. Yes you will probably have fuel odor. I had fuel odor on my 2016 since it was new even though it came with the high flow oil separator right form the factory (being a May 2016 build). Still hasn't gone away, but is much less now that I"m running AMSOIL Signature oil.

The best protection would be a dual valve with clean side catch can AND running a very low NOAC rated oil (aka it has a high resistance to boil-off, which is what causes the vaporization of oil, suit / carbon and acids, which then pass through the PCV valve and end up coating the intake and intake valves).

Although some one tested the clean side catch can a while back and didn't find anything in it because their dual valve catch can did such a good job :D (sorry UPR). Your results may vary though with different quality oils, with oils that have a high boil off rate the clean side catch can may come into play more.

Either that or you can just run it as it is from the factory, use a low noac rated oil and get the walnut shell cleaning service done every 40k to 60k miles like Subaru recomends for WRX's (an most TDI's in Europe).

So dual catch can will be a great addition without gutting the pcv?
