So, as an owner of a Triple Yellow PP car, I have a question;

How long will the stock Pirelli tires and Brembo brakes/pads last at a track event?

I've longed to do a FATT, but I'm scared I'll wreck my car, and put off at the thought of going through a set of tires and brakes in a day.

What about risking someone elses ride first? :D

Ford offers 1 and 2 day courses in GT's and Boss Mustangs;

I bet after a couple of days of professional training on a track you would feel a lot more confident risking your machine and you would do a heck of a lot better. NOT TO MENTION, I bet it is a BLAST!

I've had a Focus RS on order since January. It's built but still seems it hasn't left the port yet.
Same thing happened to me. Ordered an RS when the order banks opened in October and waited until about May before I couldn't stand it anymore and bought a GTPP. Enjoy the car and awesome write up! Not many yellow ones around here.

took my
I took my PP GT to Thunderhill Raceway in CA two months after I got it. I ran 5 - 20 minute sessions on their 5 mile course (the back 2 miles have a lot of tight turns) and the stock tires and brakes were great. No fade from the brakes and after another track day since then and a total of 28K miles of the car the brakes have about 35-40% left on them. I am NOT easy on brakes either - street or track. The stock tires - the rear tires I replaced after 10K and I do not go around burning rubber like a teenager. Front tires were replaced at about 22K, and that was BEFORE the second track day. I hope this helps. (Go out and hit the track - its well worth it!) :headbang:

I wouldn't worry about wearing out brakes and tires in a day. I've got 5 days on the tires now and I'm pretty sure I'm pushing more than you will your first time out. Same with brake pads. The stock pad is really pretty good over a wide temperature range. I'd be more concerned with the brake fluid boiling. Get some good, fresh fluid in there.

If you come to a Chin event you'll have an instructor with you all day as well as multiple classroom sessions. I typically don't see novice's wrecking their cars. Intermediate drivers are the ones more likely. Especially after they get the instructor out of their car.

You can get track insurance from Lockton Motorsports to cover damages on the track should the worst happen.

I'm.........a bit of an aggressive and competitive person. But I know that, so I think I would do o.k.

A FATT sounds fantastic, but I just bought the damn car, I'm really worried about damaging it.

Well another 2 track days on the car. I installed Steed Ultralites and sways before this event. Got it aligned to -1.8 front and -1.5 rear camber. Front is not enough but at the limits without camber plates or bolts. That will need to be addressed right away as the front tires are complaining about their current work conditions. Rear seems about right.

Impressions of the new suspension on track was fair. Front sway at full soft, rear in the middle. I was getting a bit of oversteer from apex out mainly in the low grip corners. Especially 16. 16 is a bit off camber and the grip is poor on top of it. The oversteer was nothing violent. It was actually a bit fun. Nice to have a car that's not plowing all the way around the track.:D More camber up front and a square setup may change things a bit but there is plenty of adjustment in the sways.

I was a bit disappointed that the lap times did not reflect any improvement in the car. Lap times on Saturday were about the same as the previous event when the car was stock. I was able to get about a second out on Sunday but the weather conditions were much better. I was expecting a more measureable improvement. When I put the Ford Performance adjustable handling pack on my 2013 Track Pack car, lap times dropped by almost 3 seconds. I'm wondering if I should have went with the Ford Performance Track Handling pack for this car. I drove Steveespo's car around the paddock at WG and felt that suspension was a bit too stiff for street driving for me. Always a compromise when you want a car to do dual duty. I wish Ford made an adjustable package for the S550 like they did for the S197. I loved that set up.

Here's a video from Saturday. Not my best laps but I'm chasing down a new Z06. In all fairness it is a novice driver. But it's interesting to see how corner speed and not pinching off the track out can overcome the massive horsepower and weight advantage of the Z.

Here's a pic my fellow Chief Instructor took in the paddock. Gotta love the Chevrolet banner on the top of the tower.:D

WOW! I saw 1.15 lateral G at one point :clap2: THANKS for posting this, While watching I was seriously reconsidering my order of a new Convertible in favor of a hardtop just so I can race it at the 2 tracks near me, Summit Point and VIR. If Mrs Bigfoot was not so set on a Ragtop I would do it - WELL DONE! :thumbsup:

Back at Sebring last weekend. Spent most of the day role playing as a novice while training a new instructor. I was able to get one good session and set my best lap time to date (2nd lap in the video). Even with a very sloppy turn 7. Added Steeda Camber plates and set the front camber to -2.5 as well as a BMR cradle lock out. Still on the same tires. Having another of the Chief Instructors, Vic, riding with me helped. That and keeping my skirt out of the way of the gas pedal.:)

Really liking this car a lot.:ford: I think I'm done with the suspension. MPSS tires are going on before the next event.

Your videos are KILLING ME! :eyebulge:

i am seriously considering getting a hard top instead of a convertible despite what the wife wants just so I can run it at the track. It is something I have ALWAYS wanted to do! GREAT VIDEO! :thumbsup:

I did the front myself. I have the tools and have many over the years.

When all 4 wheels need done, I usually take it to someone else. Keener Automotive in Palmetto or Lanning Tire in Sarasota. Both take the time to really do it right.

So to recap, you have the following suspension mods:
  • Steeda Ultralight springs
  • Steeda? sway bars
  • Steeda camber plates
  • BMR cradle lock out

Camber: Front: -2.5, Rear: -1.5
Sway bars: Front:full soft Rear: middle

I'm looking to do some suspension mods next. I was contemplating the Ford Performance Track set up. If I do that, think I just need the BMR cradle lock out & some camber plates?
