Whats everyone been doing for trades?

I have a 15 ecoboost premium pp nav black manual trans with roush stage 1. sticker price new was 41,910. I paid around 36 plus tax.

Currently 5400 miles on it. 1 accident report (door was keyed, and painted. comprehensive coverage)

Trade value just appraised as 20,500. I put 15000 down have 0%apr. $24,000 payoff. I have to say i knew the roush package would take a hit but this is crazy. Without the roush package it should be getting appraised at 20,500 still. I shouldnt be upside down. Any thoughts?

What have you guys faced?

This mustang is my first brand new Ford @ $37K. I knew going in that Ford does not hold value much that is why I plan on keeping it. I don't have a lot of miles on it since it's a 3rd vehicle but trade in would take a $10K hit with 2,600 miles and the two years that I've owned it is ridiculous.

In comparison, my 2015 Tacoma @ $32K with 23,000 miles is booking at $29K so only a $3K loss.

This is why I would never trade in the Mustang.

1) Ecoboost resale value is terrible (GT resale value blows, too)
2) It's a Ford. And used Ford/Chevy/Dodge does not hold value like Toyota/Lexus/Honda/Acura in general (perception of reliability)
3) Too much competition in the trade-in/used sale market
4) Too many incentives making a new example not much more expensive
5) There will always be a preference in the market for GT model; Ecoboost harder to sell (especially used)
6) Appearance packages often have zero benefit to resale value
7) Winter is coming, John Snow

I do not disagree with any of this. just much worse trade in value than i anticipated. I put 15k down payment and im upside down. that doesnt seem acceptable. its not a 100k car

Sometimes I want to go get something else, but I can't either due to my loan balance vs. what I'd get in a trade. Such is life. You have a nice car... drive it.

We always want something different. That's why I try to get what I want the first time around so that I wouldn't want something else.

I happen to like Tacoma's.

This isn't new. Mustang resale is a known quantity (terrible).

You bought a brand new, highly optioned car, with the "small" engine (not a put down), basically a year old for a LOT of money (36k). On top of that, there is a claim on it.

People get in big big trouble by buying the sparkly options on new cars with bad resale.

I purchased a base GT PP for 4200 off and zero percent financing and using trade in value, i'm about $1,500 "under water."

I did, however put $0 down and rolled taxes into loan.

Also realize different seasons will bring different values for cars, sport coupes right before winter? good luck. Trade in values are negotiable, so it's not their "best" value initially. Different dealers have different clientele too, so one can offer more or less based on their ability to actually sell the car.

I always wanted the ecoboost. i love turbo. I just happen to really really enjoy the sound of the coyote and now everytime i drive my ecoboost i end up driving near a coyote for some reason and i get jealous, even if ill keep up with my mods lol. I also have a thing for tacoma's though ive never owned one unfortunately i was shopping for them for a long time in 2012 and 2013. Was also a long time member of tacoworld too =D same forum name over there as i am over here.

I have traded two GT's and have found the resale value to be quite good in my experience. My last trade (2014 gt)I got $29k and had paid $30.5k OTD ten months prior; it had 8k miles on it. The one before that (2012 GT brembo) I got $27.5k with 16k miles and had paid $29.7k OTD after rebates, the year before.
Some dealers will offer a lot more than others. I've seen as much as a $4k difference!

My GTI tanked and was worth $18k trade after paying $23.8k a year and a half ago.

Base GT's don't seem to depreciate nearly as much.
If you got a crappy deal on the car to begin with, you'll get screwed on trade value. Many people pay way too much to be one of the first to get the new model.

According to NADA my highest trade in is 10 grand off my OTD price I paid this july, and I have 3500 miles on my car....

Oh God, I know how German car owners must feel now, 3 years from now I'm going to have a car worth as much as a clean 03-04 mach 1.

I got a pretty good deal. I got holdback less rebates (and paid the invoice for the roush package not the msrp on top of that. Overall it was a "loss" for them because it was a 15 leftover)

Your OTD was around $38-39k I'm assuming? With 15k down and ~6 low monthly payments you now owe 24k..

I think what got you was the price of the car even though they discounted 5k off. Also the claim :(

I would be upset, really upset myself if I put 15k down and be upside down.

Are you planning on trading it in for something else or just curious? Kelly Blue book has the your trade in at $20,740.
