Koeni use rimac batteries. But yes, electric power is insane. I'd bet a lot of money that a Model X will beat any of our stangs.
..in a straight line. The weight disadvantages are clear in the corners. I'm never all that impressed at Teslas beating cars in the 1/4. Who the hell even does that on their way to work? No one. At least, they shouldn't be ;)

2030 is a ways off; I look forward to cheaper, lighter, electric vehicles with longer ranges. I'll still keep the petrol though - they can't stop classics in the near term, and nor should they. But the day-to-day stuff? Yes, get it cleaner.

I wouldn't put it past a model x beating a mustang around a track, the constant torque it'll be near impossible to match. I'm sure Gibbo205 has an opinion on it ;)!

Perhaps; everything I've seen of our cars makes them look tail happy and not exactly line-hugging. Perhaps the comparison is unfair since they don't share anything in common bar four wheels and "performance". The recent surge in electric cars has meant that comparing a Tesla S against Nascars seems to now be a thing - wherein 15 years there will hopefully be something a little fairer to judge by.

Personally, I'd love something like a Zoe or i3 for the day-to-day and the Mustang for everything fun. At the moment, that's a Viva and a CBR600F. They have clear uses. I don't, personally, enjoy a future of silent performance. A good chunk of enjoying these cars is the noise - I will miss the wail of a v12.

Model X is the big SUV. The comparrison was more that electric motors can 'offer more' than that of a petrol engine. Imagine if Bugatti put all their engineering effort for the Veyron into electric; it'd break 300 easily - and i have no doubt that whatever comes after the CHiron will be electric.

But yes, some cheaper run around full electrics i guess would be nice, i have no idea on the cost implications of owning an electric car in the slightest. Other than, you can't go too far from home, and if you do, you need to take your charger with you

There's some wonderful sweeping statements there!

Most electric cars use a single motor/gearing system - so "breaking 300 easily" is not quite the case. A single motor spinning up would be compromised - so then they'd need a very capable CVT or a gearbox.. more weight. But yes, I suspect we'll see a Hybrid if not fully electric.

Cost-wise, electric cars cost you on your house bills; they aren't cheap to charge but then, they're nowhere near the cost of petrol either - but the cost of hiring the batteries is significant too (you never own those).

Ultimately, for me, at the moment it's a layering exercise that, coupled with high purchase prices, makes the investment one I'm not willing to make just yet. But it will happen.

It's worth reading up on the next generation of KW systems coming through on cars like the Zoe, Tesla and BMW (amongst others). They're all quoting a 2-fold increase in range (based on the flawed EU system) - which means they're finally becoming viable for many.

I don't care how quick it is, I'd rather get a dose of the clap than have an electric powered auto mobile, boring is too kind of word to use.

But saying that the fast Tesla on a track was in short useless, an MX5 was quicker lol:

Car and Driver did a recent lap battle on one of the most demanding circuits Virginia International Raceway in US (a lot of turns :D ) in the same day, same driver:

lightning-lap-2016-inline1-photo-670924-s-original.jpg

Results:
Tesla S P85D: 3:17.4
Audi TTS: 3:07.7
Mazda MX5 Cup car: 3:06.4
Lexus GS-F: 3:05.9
Camaro V6 1LE: 3:04.0
Focus RS: 3:03.9
Charger Hellcat (707HP): 3:03.5
F-Type SVR: 3:02.2
BMW M2: 3:01.9
R8 V10 Plus: 2:56.1
Camaro V8 SS 1LE: 2:54.8
Porsche Cayman GT4: 2:54.0
BMW M4 GTS: 2:52.9
Mustang GT 350R: 2:51.8
Honda NSX: 2:50.2
Mclaren 570S: 2:47.4
Corvette Grand Sport: 2:47.1
Porsche GT3 RS: 2:47.0
Ferrari 488 GTB: 2:45.1
Viper ACR: 2:44.2
Lexus RC-F GT Concept: 2:43.2

But even if it was quicker than a Viper ACR I simply do not care. A car is about the engine, that is why past M cars were bloody incredible and is why Porsche GT cars are still out of this world and is also why a Mustang V8 is still an incredible car living up to its Pony name and heritage.

Sorry electric does nothing for me, I'd rather take an EB Mustang over some electric wizzy fizzy machine. :p

Gibbo205 fair point, expected an electric to hold up better on the track with consistent power being put down from the second you hit the peddle.

Wasn't saying you'd like one in the slightest

I'm kind of shocked the Tesla did that bad, but hey ho!

Batteries are heavy! Weight is the enemy.

Batteries are only good when used with an engine, aka sports hybrid like Porsche 918, P1 etc.

I have a video of a Rimac smashing a 918 down a straight that has that point beaten...

As for the Rimac around the track; waiting for that video.

I'm sure in time (by 2030) electric will be way way way ahead of where it is. In my head much like phones and phone batteries getting more power and smaller/lighter, car batteries will be the same

Smashing? SMASHING? Oh do behave. Yes, it won - but in the real world, that's a TINY amount and that car would still not be winning races (nor finishing one).

Impressive it may be, but that car (an attractive one too) is NO 918. No way, no how.

And heat! How do you keep warm in winter using an all electric without draining the battery and still have driving range? The UK isn't even as cold as some countries.

Owners say you can lose as much as 40% range. Depends on lots of things; temperature, toys switched on, etc etc.

You can't beat that heady mix of unburnt fuel, warm metal hot oil and scorched rubber.... :D

Driving is much more than just going fast....

True is my only goal was to go fast, I could of got a very nice GTR for 40k, which will absolutely destroy a Mustang at anything statistically or performance wise.

But oh wait I did not buy a GTR, I got a Mustang, its not all about figures and electric, batteries do absolute diddly squat for me.

Manders should of got the V8, he'd not be dreaming of electric power then. ;)
