When in the car with phone connected CarPlay automatically uses the phones map and data for imputed destinations. If you disconnect the phone the car uses the cars own inbuilt navigation.

My question is; how can you have CarPlay running, music, phone and messages and use the cars own Nav. I have tried turning off location services on the phone maps but then you just get a blank crosshatched map screen.

What am I missing?

Most Apple car play radios have a button that lets you toggle between the two. Maybe hitting one of the physical buttons underneath the screen?

Yeah, tried the random button pushing, no luck
Tried reading the book but then the beer took over.

I have the same query. The carplay nav (Apple maps I guess) is very average so I wanted to use the native Ford Synch Nav - shows speed limits and greater detail - heck - the Apple nav. didn't even show the streets I was on - I was "on a grid" . So I had to unplug. Seems you get all of one or all of the other, not a combination. Funny that the address of the route carried back and forth ok.
Note that Carplay "collects certain data" about your trip incl. how fast etc...I hope Mr Plod can't access. I guess it is to improve mapping and get dynamic traffic flow info in future.
Cheers

SYNC 3 functionality

When you’re connected to Apple CarPlay, many SYNC 3 features, such as the optional Navigation system and SYNC® AppLink™, will be unavailable. You can, however, access a limited number of SYNC 3 features by pressing the SYNC icon on the touchscreen. This takes you to an integrated view that allows you to use certain SYNC 3 and Apple CarPlay features. To exit this view and return to Apple CarPlay, press the Apple CarPlay icon in the Feature Bar.

Note: SYNC does not control Apple CarPlay while in use. Apple is solely responsible for Apple CarPlay functionality.

From the manual.. Doesn't sound good for using both at the same time:frusty:

This annoyed me a little today and I couldn't work out how to get back to normal Nav. Also when it's just paired and not using the CarPlay you can read the text messages but when in CarPlay and you go to messages it would only let you listen to them and reply, not view? Does that make sense?

Unlike the Auto Android Apple Car play doesn't lock out phone functions on the hand held. But they still don't want you reading messages while driving. The way I see it, a passenger can still use apps on the phone while the driver uses the dash.

No the phone still works fine, I was meaning on the screen. I didn't check if it is related to speed but when just on bluetooth connection the text message pops up and you can choose to view it and have it read out. When in Apple CarPlay you press the messages app it lists the people messages are from but I couldn't see them, only have Siri read them to me and ask if I wanted to reply. I'll have more of a play tomorrow. Love the Spotify app!!

I said it DOESNT LOCK THE PHONE.

A review showed that Android Auto did lock it, but updates can always made.

The Car Play not showing the text was pretty much how it was shown in the video, so if you want to read your messages then you need to stick with Sync Bluetooth.

Hey everyone!

You can read more about what GGT-66 posted here: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync...arplay/sync-3-plus-apple-carplay-support.html

Built-in navigation will be unavailable while connected to CarPlay. I see that this may be an inconvenience for some. Please go to our Social site to share your feedback and get your voice heard: Social.Ford.com

AppLink compatible apps for Android (can't vouch for Apple) are pretty boring and useless. Needs improvement. Hardly worth the trouble.
