Longtime lurker finally ready to buy my first Mustang / 1st new car for my 40th birthday. Been browsing these forums for two years, especially the pricing threads, and feel like I have a good idea what I want to pay based on posts on these forums.

I want to buy either a base GT auto @ 32k OTD, or an ecoBoost premium auto at 30k OTD.

My definition of OTD price is total cash after TTL fees ect.. The total I owe before any down payment or trade in (My money).

These both seem pretty realistic to me based on the posts I see here, the most common comparable being the base GT +PP I have seen quite a few posting at OTD for 32k. PP is 2k so I think a $1200 auto option for same price I am seeing reported seems reasonable.

So far I have been basically laughed out of every dealership in so cal. The best I could find was 30,500 + TTL or about $33,300 OTD. On the GT or 31,500 for the ecoboost. Both of these are higher than I feel like I should be paying, but maybe I'm wrong? Has anyone else been able to get a deal like I'm looking for in so cal on a prev yr model or am I fooling myself?

I think you're way low. Where are you seeing GT's in Cali OTD for that price? KBB has their target OTD price at $34,200. They and TrueCar both list price for the vehicle at $30,800 not including the destination fee.

This is as cheap as you're going to get it. Arrange to have it shipped open container to California. Take care of the taxes at the DMV.

But can I just get this in Cali realistically? So this price would OTD me around 31,400 I would be fine with even $29,500 ending me at $32,100 OTD. But I can't get a dealer to roll with me.

Not in California. Even volume dealers in California won't go that low. 33K is the realistic price.

Yup, CA dealers incentives aren't as high as they are on the east coast. The best price you're going to get in CA is about $33k OTD. I just picked up a new 16' Base GT manual for $33,200 OTD.

You could pick one up from Koons and ship it over here, but I calculated it would cost about $33k as well but you have to go through the headache of getting the emissions inspected here and paying tax at the DMV.

I mentioned Koons because of the pricing. I bought my base GT for $27,195. It cost me $700 to ship to San Diego on open transport. Much cheaper than any dealer in California.
