I've been cruising around on these for 300 miles or so at this point and thought I'd do a quick review. First off, I got these direct from Firestone for the same price as Tirerack which avoided the shipping cost. If you opt to get them installed there and they try that $55 each, low profile bs, just tell them your dealership charges $20 and most of the time they'll match it. ;)
So my setup is 275/40/19 on MRR M350 wheels (thanks Paul from N4SM). My factory wheels were the 18's with the All Season Pirelli's.
So how do they stack up?
- Steering response is sharp but not twitchy. Definitely an improvement over the Pirelli All Seasons which could feel vague at times.
- The difference is easy felt during cornering. I drive the same route to work everyday going on 15 years, so I know the road. Where the Pirelli's got squirrelly and scary pushing it in the corners, the Firestones feel more controlled and planted.
- Road noise... the Pirelli's are better here. On rough pavement the Firestones can drone where the Pirelli's are silent, but it's not overbearing and certainly livable. On smooth roads they're actually very quiet.
- Ride quality, definitely feel the bumps and imperfections in the road more. I'm finding squeaks and rattles that didn't come up with the other tires. But I wouldn't classify them as harsh by any stretch of the imagination.
- Rain, only driven in rain once with these and didn't have any issues. I never had issues with the Pirelli's either so YMMV.
- Ruts! Haven't had any issues with them following ruts, they seem to stay on track nicely.
These tires are seriously pointing out that I need to do some suspension work in the future:lol:. With the Pirelli's I never really noticed just how much body roll this car has, but I couldn't go through the corners as fast as I can now either.
addle:
So are these the best tires in the world? No, there are definitely better performing tires out there. But for the price I really have nothing bad to say about them. If I was tracking my car I'd probably go with something else, but I'm not and for my daily commute and the price I'd buy them again. Frankly at this price point I was pleasantly surprised and I'd have a hard time justifying spending more money unless I turned into a track junky. We'll have to see how the treads wear, but they should hold up decently if their 340 wear rating is correct.
