They should give you a better deal than that just to unbolt the transmission, have a look at the clutch, and potentially bolt it back together again.

I'll have to see what they say when I hear back from them. This whole situation is a bit of a shit show. :frusty:. I've started looking at clutches on Lethal's website, I know the McLeod Rxt is the go-to clutch for our cars but I have a friend out in Texas that installed an Exedy Mach 500 on his pro-charged S550 about a month and a half ago and I know he's not gentle on his car. Just waiting to hear back from him about how that clutch is holding up.

Already PM'd FordService a link to this thread. I'm sure they're backed up a bit, it seems the TSB's section of this site is booming.

Exedy Grooved Mach 500 Stage 3 Clutch w/ Hydraulic Throwout Bearing (11-16 GT)

this clutch is advertised at 616 lb ft of torque
kit lists for $576

likely need a flywheel as well.

Yeah it's a toss-up between that and the McLeod RXT at this point. I figure if the kit is $576 and the flywheel is $370 I might as well just get the RXT + steel flywheel combo. I spoke to a Lethal Performance customer service rep. over the phone and he said the RXT will take the punishment a lot better than the RST would. He also stated that I could expect a long life out of the RXT, especially compared to what I got out of the OEM unit. There must be a reason why everyone keeps recommending McLeod.. Almost forgot, I found a local shop that'll do the clutch job for $400 bucks as well. So that saves me over 50% in labor cost.

RXT + Steel Flywheel + labor = $1,615
Or
Exedy Mach 500 + Exedy Flywheel + labor = $1,346

About a $270 difference. Oh well, at least I got numbers I can work with now in case I get nowhere with Ford.

Side note: The speed shop told me to pick up an extra throw out bearing for the install. I don't see any listed specifically for the 15+ models on their site, am I blind? Lol :headbonk:

The ceramic clutches should be able to deal with heat better.

Does the quote for the Exedy include the throwout bearing? For the McLeod, American Muscle website advertises McLeod Adjustable Hydraulic throwout bearing, but its not cheap, $379. Looks cool though.

They also estimate labor to at 4 hours, so $400 labor sound good.

I am guessing the quote for the Exedy includes the Exedy throwout bearing, whereas for the McLeod, that's an extra. So the price for McLeod RXT with McLeod Adjustable Hydraulic throwout bearing would be more like $2000.

Update: Car has been towed to the dealership and they called me to let me know they'll take a look at it when they get a chance. What's the best method of approaching this on my end?
Thank you for the PM and glad to learn you had it towed in to your dealer, SD_GT! I sent you a response.

Thanks for getting back to me, Deysha. Truth be told, I caved and bought a McLeod RXT with the steel flywheel. I figure it should hold whatever I throw at it. :paddle:

You will enjoy it. I am probably roughly 80 or so miles away from the end of the 500 mile street break-in period. I initially was hesitant as this is my first manual car and I heard the RXT is tougher to daily (which doesn't matter anymore as I bought a DD lol), but I did it anyway since I ordered FI. It had some rough chatter at first but that went away within the first 100 miles and honestly, I like the driveability of it in stop and go traffic better than the stock clutch. You are going to be VERY happy.

Thanks for the feedback, Jon. I was discussing my purchase with some friends and family last night (all car people) and they were giving me hell for purchasing a twin disc clutch saying that it would be "impossible" to daily.

Did you purchase the aluminum or steel flywheel?

I got the McLeod steel flywheel. Honestly, I was worried too, but at least in my case it seems even easier to DD. Like I said too, this is my first manual car (about 8K miles so far) so if the RXT was as bad as everyone says I definitely would have noticed. I just give it a little more gas than the stock clutch and I find it likes to be slipped just a tad longer. Still smoother than stock in my opinion and my wife noticed it too when I drove her.

Finally picked the car up after getting the RXT + steel flywheel combo installed. The pedal feels much better than stock, feedback and pressure are consistent through the whole range of motion.

I'm now experiencing a new issue however;

The car is very difficult to shift into 1st and 2nd gear, from a stop or roll. Also, it doesn't travel the same distance from the center as it would if I was shifting towards 5th and 6th gear. If that makes sense..? I'll take a video and post it soon.

Is the clutch pedal coming all the way up? Did you take the spring out?
