255/35 20" vs. more expensive 265's?

Heh all.

I just got a '16 GT Premium with the optional 20" Foundry wheels/Summer tires. I live in the Northeast and will be driving the car year round, so I was looking at getting All Season tires.

When researching at Tire Rack, I noticed a big price difference between a slightly smaller 255/35 20" vs. the OEM 265/35 20" sizes.

For Ex:

• Four A/S ExtremeContact DWS 06 in the OEM 265/35ZR20" size are $1205
• If I drop down a size with the same ExtremeContact DWS 06, I can get four 255/35ZR20" at $798
• Or I could get four A/S G-MAX AS-03 in the smaller 255/35ZR20" size for only $533

Anyone know why the 265 sizes are that much more expensive, and if there is any real performance difference compared to a 255 size?

265 is a less common size. Off sizes are always way more. That's why 19 inch tires used to be ridiculously priced. They come down quiet a bit in recent years since they've become a normal size.

I got 4 275/35/20 Nitto NT555 G2 for around $600 discount tire direct.

No fitment issues then with slightly wider 275's?

It will bulge a little on the 9" wide rim, but it is within the recommended width for the 275 tire.

Seems like 255's are the better option then to avoid the more expensive OEM 265's.

Hi, I have 255/35/20 on my 9" Foundry wheels and it looks and works great, 275 will be to much.

Here is a picture, lowered 1 inch rear and 1 1/2 inch front. Wheels fits perfect and it looks and feels like a sportscar. Better grip then the stock 275 pirellis.

I like to keep thing OEM, but the price diff for 265's versus the next smaller/next larger size is making me think twice.

I'm thinking of either going for 255 All Season's or a dedicated 18" Winter set up.

Everything I have read the majority say to go winter tires and stay away from the all-season. Unless you plan on leaving your car home on those particularly Snowy days.

I plan on leaving me home on those particularly snowy days, I'm recently retired. ;)

And they're out of stock as well, my guess is they were having a sell off to get rid of them.

But those are Summer tires and and that's what I'm trying to get away from. I'm considering a set of four All Season 255/35 20 G-MAX AS-03's for $533.80 at Tire Rack.

Now that's a deal.

eBay. They run specials all the time. They had a deal where if you spent $400 you'd get a $100 off. So I found the deal with 2 Nitto tires for $400 and ordered 2. Free shipping and just paid taxes. Came to like $640.

For me, it's coming down to these options at the Tire Rack:

• 4 All Season 265/35ZR20 ExtremeContact DWS 06 at $1,213.40 (OEM size)
• 4 All Season 255/35ZR20 ExtremeContact DWS 06 at $798.20 (one size smaller then OEM)
• 4 All Season 255/35ZR20 General G-MAX AS-03 at $533.80 (one size smaller then OEM, 265's not available)
• 18" Snow Tire/Wheel Package for $1,181.80 (keep my OEM 20" setup for Summer driving)

I'm a fan of the dedicated winter setup. But I have used those general G-max before and they are pretty good (17" size on a jaguar). If you source some cheaper wheels elsewhere, you could probably get that winter setup price a bit lower. (as long as you don't have the GTPP brakes).
