Mustang Carpark Challenge

The Mustang width (inc mirrors) is 6' 10" (2.1 meters) which is too wide for many width restrictions and a combination of an enormous hood and wide body and low seating position can make parking a nightmare.

I admit that I hate parking my Mustang and I'm terrified of multi-storey and underground carparks which so far I have generally avoided.

The carparks with the single lane channels and tight corners are the worst.

Do any owners have experience of taking their Mustangs to any of the following notorious car-parks and restricted widths?

Front sensors and rim guards might alleviate some of the stress, but in the end avoidance is the best policy (IMO) - or a passenger willing to sight you through the kerbs on foot. In other words, underground and multi-storey car parks are out.

Went on the euro tunnel yesterday,apart from the queue at passports lol the only thing that was a bit close was actually driving onto the train.You have to concentrate when you drive off as you can catch your wheels/ tyres on the edging but it's not a too bad experience.Did not see any other mustangs in 9 hrs of driving.

Try Berlin, and Stockholm, multi- stories, in a LHD, great fun, had 4 of them.
but not ideal, the Stang is a big wide beastie

I've always been great at parking and had a variation of sizes of cars from an MG TF to a Jag XJ8 and have never struggled, even in the tight car parking spaces at work which haven't been re-marked since it was built in 1968. Friends and colleagues have often commented on my ability to park in tight spots with ease. But for some reason, I'm ashamed to say I do find the mustang a challenge! Getting into spaces isn't to difficult, but I always seem to struggle with getting in straight. I always reverse into spots as I find cars more manoeuvrable in that direction and it makes the escape easy. But in the works car park, reversing into a space invariably takes more than one manoeuvre, that's never been the case with any car I've had, even the jag. Maybe I'm not used to sitting so close to the rear, given most of cars have been saloons. I also think that the reversing camera is partly to blame. I want to use it as a parking aid but I have a lack of trust or an inability to use it effectively. I suppose I should stick to mirrors and sensors to let me know where I am. Anyone else find the reversing camera a bit of a white elephant?

This is the first car I've owned with a rear camera and as a result I don't use it for reversing. It's handy for checking the area I'm reversing into (ensure baskets of washing or bikes haven't appeared in the garage, etc). The parking sensors are a godsend however and I just wish Ford had put them on the front. The aftermarket solution is just a bit aftermarket for me.

Wife's car has 360 cameras and don't use them either.

I would just like to challenge all the f*ckwits that like to park next to me, as close as they can when there's a gazillion spaces available, much closer to the building/shop they're going to, to just park somewhere else

I just despire multi-storey car parks. Parked up in BrindleyPlace, and my god, that's a b1tch, not a restricted width, just a bunch of awful parkers and tight lanes.

When I first started buying new and expensive cars with alloys and tyres with replacement costs that required you to consider selling your organs, I also started to partake in this rather weird process of avoiding certain narrow two-way roads, virtually all multi-storey and single level public and municipal car parks, any roads which I knew would likely contain a dearth of 50-60kg 5'0"-5'3" tall women attempting to drive 2500kg 17' long Chelsea tractors, and even certain friends houses with awkward angular and/or viciously sloped driveways... even going as far as to making sure when booking my car on a sea ferry that I only used sailings that coincided with high tides in order that I wouldn't take the paint off the front and rear valances and flatten my exhaust trying to negotiate the ridiculous 25-35 degree transition between ramp and ferry or vice-versa on low tides.

My wife, parents and many of my friends don't see the logic behind my reasons for often turning up for special occasions that would normally warrant the appearance of the 'posh' car, in my smaller, much cheaper and far less flamboyant works car - but they see anything less than a Rolls Royce or Bentley as nothing more than a utilitarian mode of transport and are happy with their scuffed wheels and car park dented doors.

So it's nice to know that these self-imposed restrictions on where to drive and park are not a madness I suffer alone!

Gatwick north terminal, arrivals last Tuesday night. Went up 3 floors. Regretted it straight away. It did it purely from judgement cause from the first turn of the steering wheel to turn into the up or down ramp, the hood hides the massive 'kerbed' concrete kerbs. And believe me, this car needs all the room it gives you. Even getting up to the top (which has more room to get out), the massive hood rises like the deck of an aircraft carrier so you can't even see the road up top.

Best avoided unless you want to boost your confidence of you're spacial awareness and give your heart a workout

I agree with the whole parking issue. It will be a high day and holiday car so never likely to see a tight fit car park etc. However having now realised it will fit in my garage with exactly 1cm to spare I feel either I better get damn good at parking it or build a garage extension. The latter is the easier option in my view.

If anyone is ever in Newcastle, DO NOT .. i repeat DO NOT attempt Grainger Town multi story, you will destroy your car. The entrance & exit bear the scars of many cars, its a relatively new carpark too. Exiting involves a down ramp into an up ramp with a hard left hand turn on reverse camber with foot high kerbs either side.

I parked in Times Sq multi last night and sucked myself in going in! the car only just fits in a bay, and by that i mean either side of the car is on the white lines. Coming out i must have been a gnats chuff away from clipping my left mirror on the exit barrier

That's why I have other cars at my disposal ! However have parked in Waitrose in Hitchin as my theory is you get a better class of Parker !
