What are our options? I know the Ford solution is the gunk but what wheel fits on the front/rear of the GT? And although not ideal would using a front on the rear axle be acceptable to limp to the nearest tyre fitter? Presumably the EB is no problem,

Call Ford Assistance, which is included for the 1st year of ownership and let them get the car back to where you want it i.e. home or destination. That way you can take the wheel and tyre to where ever you want to get it fixed.

Yes, that would work. I have AA also for other cars.
Was kinda wondering what the fitment options are for actually having a spare though. It was discussed at length back in the waiting days but can't find the thread. I'm cr@p at searching forums...

Being done as I speak. The foam gunk stinks of p1ss apparently - ammonia based stuff. May end up just leaving it...

Did get some juicy Ford gossip though whilst I was here :ford: will share in a separate post ;)

Glad you're getting it sorted :)

Haven't had a puncture in years, but picked up a massive nail in our rental car we had in Florida. We were just leaving Universal Studios, so we headed to the nearest Pep Boys........but they were fully booked for 4 days!!

Ended up getting back to the villa and swapping to the space saver (looked bloomin' stupid on an SUV!). Mrs TT then called the rental company and they said we couldn't get the tyre fixed ourselves, we'd have to swap cars! The only place with SUVs spare was the airport, so we had to head over there (at 50 mph max!). Took nearly half a day out of our holiday :(

But what is the price they're charging you to change the tyre (if you were to do that)

Further back in the thread I said that my dealer had investigated this for me...

There is an Ecoboost space saver spare wheel available http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/for...kit_from_2015_onwards_f_KITSPARE25_c_1628.htm

It can't be used with the GT as it won't fit over the Brembo brakes on the front.

In the case of front wheel puncture my dealer checked if a serviceable GT rear wheel could be fitted to the front and it was thought by them that it could work.

When my dealer asked for clarification from Ford Technical the response was that the space saver spare wheel should not be used with the GT. This could be due to the safety implications of a size mismatched wheel or it could be an issue with the limited slip differential. My assumption is that Ford Technical won't approve the configuration simply because it has not been tested by Ford.

My fear is that even with Ford Assist which can be extended by taking the service plan or with AA membership if you are disabled by a puncture then the only way the recovery service will be able to move your Mustang is to get a flat bed. Even getting a few yards to just get off the road will potentially cause damage.

BTW I think Ford Assist is provisioned by the AA.

This is correct, according to my dealer who stated 'Ford assist is provided by AA, but it is the AAs premium service' :D

I bought the Ford spare wheel for my EB, even though the dealer didn't know anything about it. Sits flush in the wheel well, comes with jack and wheel-brace and fits all four wheels.
Sod's Law says punctures will happen Saturday evening in a place with no mobile reception, surprising how common that is. Don't rely on cans of foam or the recovery service.
Next time, get an Ecoboost with a spare wheel.

This is almost £400 with the tyre, vat, etc
a real rip off price, its cheaper to import from the States even with the delivery, duty, vat, etc

Shame you haven't got a GT mate. Will be booking mine in immediately to change the rears for MPSS. Will be selling 2 x PZeros with as near as damn it, delivery mileage. We're close too.

Good plan..... wrong size tyres

Well I'm out. Wallet is £210 lighter. That was the cost of the tyre (with £20 off apparently). No charge for the change or cleaning out the old one.

They were very reluctant to do a repair after having the foam stuff in it. The guy was convinced that any patch the put in would fall off when the tyres got hot, even if done properly. The liquid apparently seeps into the rubber?!

Looking back, I could have stayed put, called a mobile repair service and tried that but there wouldn't have been any guarantee that they would have had a tyre available as quickly as I got one today and of course they may not have been able to repair it anyway.

Still have the tyre so may take it somewhere and get it repaired.

I may have the record for being late to work too...I do 9-5. Rocked up at 4.50pm

Good call, that looks like what I have got in the boot. My logic was that I could go back to Ford with any problems.

Had just saved £4000 by not buying a GT, so could afford to splash out £400 for some peace of mind.
