So I finally decided on an S550 that was on a lot in New Jersey (I'm in Chicago) and we "should" be picking it up this Monday. However, my dad and the car guy he is told me to look up issues regarding my 16 GT. So I just did that and man, is this car a lemon?! I love the car and all, but after going to the issues/problems subforum I'm asking myself, "Is this car going to be taken to the shop often?"

Perhaps you guys could shed light on this with some issues you've had with your Mustang. I'm really only focused on the major issues though. The ones that caught my eye are the driveshaft rumbling, differential issues, stalling (dealing with the clutch sensor apparently) and things of that nature.

My potential mustang details: GT Premium, Magnetic, PP, Redline, All options except Adaptive Cruise

Thanks Everyone! PLEASE ease my mind! :headbonk:

Take a good look at the seats to make sure that the leather is firm streched correctly. Check for body panel alignment.

You have to remember that the people that post in a forum are a very small sample of total sales. While issues do exist it's really a small portion of the cars that have had issues and it's all covered under your warranty. I personally have not had to take my car in for any repairs.

Chill out. You'll be fine. Every car has some sort of issues, and you're just going to drive yourself nuts thinking about it. Some have had bad luck, but I wouldn't say there's anything particularly troubling.

That's why you test drive. And just not around the block. Take as much time as you need. If they don't like it, leave. You didn't say if it was new or used. Or the mileage. If it's used or you suspect anything about it, get the dealer to print you out an oasis report. That will tell you if that car has ever been serviced at a Ford dealership. Enjoy.

Remember it's a Ford, built in unionized shop. As long as you remember about it, you'll be fine. There are definitely lemons but absolute majority of the cars are good and they'are absolutely awesome to drive. Do a test drive, look at it closely and you'll be fine.

Some people are picky so they complain about stupid stuff like "thud" from manual transmission.

The most common problems are cosmetic; loose seat leather, bad panel fits, window alignment, etc. I was disappointed to have to deal with that kinda stuff on a new, $40k+ car (still think it's not right). The multiple trips to the dealer, multiple loaner cars required before everything was resolved were also a pain in the ass. But in the end, those are relatively minor issues and the dealer should take care of them all.

Other than that, I've had no serious issues. I'm sure you've seen a lot of posts about transmission issues, but those seem to be rare, and the engine is pretty bulletproof.

It is a special order car so it'll be new, can't quite remember the mileage but I'm sure it hasn't been beaten up. I'll be sure to have the dealer do that when we go see it on Monday as far as the oasis report.

I am in the same boat waiting for my ride next month. The advise you got is great and I will follow it as well when inspecting and test driving my car before I sign and hand them the check.

That is one of the best parts of these forums - they provide great info and advice and so you know what to look for.

My last purchase was a 991s and there were some of the same concerns. Porsche had to take back some cars and fix others. My leather interior still squeaks as do the breaks. And that car was 150% more expensive. There are going to be issues, but big issues are few.

I would be cautious about buying a car from a dealer so far away. You will get better service if you bought the car from the dealership. Also, there are some great and not so great dealerships in NJ. JMO, but Laccardi and Bell are places to avoid.

Well I actually just got a job that is only a 7 minute walk from the train station here in Chicago, and my house is only a 2 minute walk form the station I leave from so she'll be in the garage most of the hours of the week. I'll be sure to make up for it with some weekend fun though!

WAAAAAAY more good than bad with these cars. Looks like a nice performance car, enjoy it!!
This - my '16 is virtually perfect. No paint issues, no body panel misalignment. Not issues AT ALL with 2500 miles.

If you use internet reviews to make your purchase decisions you would not be buying much. I can find negative reviews of ANY product you could name.
